And yes I'm sure you would be able to do a proximity thing with music blasting through the speakers of a hog. That definitely sounds doable from a production standpoint. It's just a matter of more than one person playing music at the same time. Audio streams might get kinda wierd. But i would imagine only the warthog would have this feature and the pelican of course if that's included in the game.

Yeah... that's exactly my thoughts on it.

The whole point, at least as I've conceived of it, is to add another dimension of fun (and character) to the already legendary Warthog. We all love the damn thing... why not equip it with a radio!

Good point on the audio streams goin a bit crazy when there's multiple Hogs on screen.... very good point.

Maybe only one Hog per level would have a radio!!! Give people something else to scrap over ("Screw the flag man... whose comin to steal their sweet Warthog?")

The more I think about this the more I think it would work but would need careful balancing.... maybe there would have to be a maximum volume level on the thing... so it can't get totally out of hand. I don't know... just thinkin.

Finally, if this isn't an original idea then GREAT!!! I can't say I've seen it around before but I'm not surprised others have mentioned something like it. All that says to me is alot of people know it makes sense.... that's cool.

It's interesting hearing all the different points of view and observations on this idea....

Keep em comin!!!!

Ok... I've had an idea for Halo 3 multiplayer that I think would be truly awesome...

I'd like to know what other forum members think. I admit beforehand that I'm not very technically minded and don't know whether or not it would be possible/practical.

Here goes....

Whenever a player enters the driver seat of a warthog (or any passenger carrying vehicle) there should be a 'radio option'. The driver could then select a track from the list (or even better his harddrive) and crank it up!!! The music would be heard by everybody through proximity.

Imagine it... cruising with your Halo homies to some sweet tunes....

Advancing on an enemy team with 'Eye of the Tiger' blazing through the beatbox...

A lone sniper's heartbeat accelerates as he hears the thumping bass of Rage Against the Machine's Bombtrack growing louder and louder as a warthog full of enemy players flys over a nearby hill.....

Come on.. this HAS TO WORK!!!!

What do you guys think?

I love it.

Yeah it would be cool, but I would just jump out of the hog everytime there was rap playing.

I would so play we are the champions when I have the flag in the car.

it's an interesting idea,
but it could be VERY complicated to implement,

i think the furthest that idea would go is the option to play your own music while your playing the game, on your tv / 360

And yeah, Opey could probably win that game without using his BR. Best SMG user in Halo.

You wouldn't have to worry about a song's "explicit content." Half of the stuff you hear from 10 year olds is worse. [where are those kids' parents?]

Imagine this:

Charging into an opponents base in your warthog, turret blazing, with the Backstreet Boys playing from it. "Quit playing games with my heart ..."

I think I'd be unable to play from the straight up -blam!-ness from my opponents ... that and it'd be really funny. =p

LOL if i could force everybody to liste nto my music I would set all of my tracks to either incredibly offensive screaming and profanity or just have the audio track form some disgusting fetish film.

All to just put a level of disgust into the minds of all around me (and possibly myself as well)

That or i could go out and buy some emo angst crap and make people listen to that and then want to complain about their "horible" upper middle class lives in suburbia.

Look for the signs, the keepers of the flame.
They will lead you to war, and perhaps, to victory.

Finish the Fight

Don't know if this has been said, but this has been done in Battlefield: Vietnam, so it is possible. Ride of the Valkyrie [sp?] would be funny in a pelican.

There would be no point but annoyig the -blam!- out of everyone but the person blasting the music. Sure, it would be cool at first, but how would you like a little kid singing along to some obnoxious rap or hard rock song throughout the ENTIRE GAME? Even if there is proximity on it, do you really think some jackoff won't just follow around players, singing as loud as they can into their headsets to U2 (which simply does not deserve to be defiled in that manner)? For every one person playing Ride of the Valkeries or Beehtoven's Symphony # 9, there will be ten who will see this as another way to make people want to rip the speakers out of their TVs.

You know what...

I think you're absolutely correct.

In fact, having thought more and more about this idea I'm starting to think maybe it would actually kinda suck...

I mean there's an excellent point made with multiple audio-streams causing all kinds of mayhem. Add to that the potential of the 'token 12 yr old' abuse of hip-hop (or even worse, as you've mentioned, the debasement of a talented artist) and real problems begin to emerge.

Maybe the only way Bungie could do it would be to have specific 'Halo' tunes. That said, the novelty would wear off pretty quick with that one too.

I don't know.... it was good while it lasted.

That said.... I still like the idea of approaching a base full of campers in a Hog with sniper cover and shouting:

"Come out of the base and accept your fate or we'll be forced to .... do it"

Of course the campers in the base wouldn't respond and I'd grimly turn to my good friend in the driver seat of the Hog and say "there's no choice... go ahead"

He'd shudder, switch on the radio, and the campers in the base would begin a terrible high-pitched screaming as Britney Spears 'Oops...I did it again' filled the air.

Some would quit.

Others, unable to allow themselves the shame of quitting, would suicide.

Whoever was left would be too disorientated and shocked to put up much of a fight and could be calmly sniped as they attempted to flee the area. It's even possible that such an abrupt and violent use of Britney could cause the human player so much trauma that his/her Spartan model may suffer irretrievable psychosomatic side-effects (spasms/incontinence)

Then again, maybe not.

And there'd be a snag of course.... 12yr olds would probably just dance to it.

hmmm, so much posts and i aint gunna read them all, so ill just have my say. i love this diea, it would be totally sweet! and it is possibly, cos gta does it. and haveing mulitple wartogs wouldnt matter. it would be no different than having two different explosion sounds at the same time or whatever. so yeah, great idea man

  • 05.26.2006 2:29 AM PDT

The idea is already in GTA, the radio at least.
I reckon its possible, sorta, but who would use it? It would take a while to find the song and what if you need to rush?
