There would be no point but annoyig the -blam!- out of everyone but the person blasting the music. Sure, it would be cool at first, but how would you like a little kid singing along to some obnoxious rap or hard rock song throughout the ENTIRE GAME? Even if there is proximity on it, do you really think some jackoff won't just follow around players, singing as loud as they can into their headsets to U2 (which simply does not deserve to be defiled in that manner)? For every one person playing Ride of the Valkeries or Beehtoven's Symphony # 9, there will be ten who will see this as another way to make people want to rip the speakers out of their TVs.
You know what...
I think you're absolutely correct.
In fact, having thought more and more about this idea I'm starting to think maybe it would actually kinda suck...
I mean there's an excellent point made with multiple audio-streams causing all kinds of mayhem. Add to that the potential of the 'token 12 yr old' abuse of hip-hop (or even worse, as you've mentioned, the debasement of a talented artist) and real problems begin to emerge.
Maybe the only way Bungie could do it would be to have specific 'Halo' tunes. That said, the novelty would wear off pretty quick with that one too.
I don't know.... it was good while it lasted.
That said.... I still like the idea of approaching a base full of campers in a Hog with sniper cover and shouting:
"Come out of the base and accept your fate or we'll be forced to .... do it"
Of course the campers in the base wouldn't respond and I'd grimly turn to my good friend in the driver seat of the Hog and say "there's no choice... go ahead"
He'd shudder, switch on the radio, and the campers in the base would begin a terrible high-pitched screaming as Britney Spears 'Oops...I did it again' filled the air.
Some would quit.
Others, unable to allow themselves the shame of quitting, would suicide.
Whoever was left would be too disorientated and shocked to put up much of a fight and could be calmly sniped as they attempted to flee the area. It's even possible that such an abrupt and violent use of Britney could cause the human player so much trauma that his/her Spartan model may suffer irretrievable psychosomatic side-effects (spasms/incontinence)
Then again, maybe not.
And there'd be a snag of course.... 12yr olds would probably just dance to it.
