My friend, you would not tell with ſuch high zeſt
To children ardent for ſome deſperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum eſt
Pro patria mori.

True, but it's pretty confined I've found. It hasn't really seeped into the other forums yet.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

The main thing I've noticed is that activity in the Underground dropped. It's picked up a bit now, but for a couple of days, nothing really happened.

But I'm glad the chaos has been quarantined. As I'm sure almost everyone here is.

This is more a questions for some of the longer serving members of bungie.net, but were the forums like this when halo 2 was announced? As you all know the halo 3 forum is a nightmare with people posting the same thing over and over again. If it was how long did it take to calm down? Thanks guys.

The entire forum was a mess.... and with about two moderators at the time, bungie was overwhelmed

I remember a lot of complaining. People going on about Halo 2's ending and how they didn't like it, the multiple threads on one topic. It really was a mess, I agree.

Please note, I was a member under the name SharpObjects at the time of Halo 2's announcement, my account got deleted after not being on for a long time. I couldn't stand all the complaining so I stopped coming online.

What are those green projectiles in the new screenshot? (They turned out to be Carbine bullets; I thought they were new needler rounds, for some reason)

I remember that. I'm in there somewhere.

I suppose it depends on which forum was given the activity boost. I know once Halo 2 came out there was a large increase in members, kinda like right now. However most of those members would come to talk about Halo 2 or Halo 3 and would visit the forums referring to those games. That meant other forums didn't see that much of an increase in activity. I could be wrong, but that's just what I remember.

On the old site it was fairly quiet. Often a topic would be made and then 12 hours later it would still be on the main, perhaps the second page.

Then when the new hotness arrived it kind of exploded and it got really busy. It never died down but steadly increased then exploded in the month before and the months after Halo2's release. Slowly it decreased until the new maps started to trickle in....then after that finished it slowly decreased.

Then a sudden surge of members came online for Halo3 (but not as big as a surge as before)

Yeah, about the time Halo 2 came out most people left, and then started coming back talking about featured, and maybe 6 months later everything was calmed down. Until Halo 3 comes out things will be crazy.

i was looking at that grapf thingy that shows how many people were on bungie,

1000 million, is a lot of people to have on one website, you must have HUGE servers to handle that.

Oh no...I don't want people to see my old posts. ;-) Some of them actually are quite embarassing, unfortunately; what's scary, though, is when I actually remember posting them.

Hey, I haven't seen you in a while. Enkidu was cool, although we could have done without the lashing. :-) But that wasn't Steve's fault. Or was it? Dun---Dun----DUNNNNN!

Only the paranoid will survive!

With Halo 2 it was worse, in my opinion. And it still hasn't calmed down. The forums are always changing, for better or worse. It's something we just need to live with.

I can't say I was a member when Halo 2 was annouced. This could be interesting...

You joined on 11 May, 2004. Halo 2 was released on 9 November, 2004.

In terms of the sheer volume of posts and bandwidth usage, Halo 3 Forum was far more active than Zanzibar at their respective release announcements.

I only got here a little bit before the release of Halo 2, but distinctly remember feeling that a few of the forums became a lot...angrier. What with all the spoiler discussion, ensuing flame-wars etc etc.

After the Halo 2 release, Zanzibar (and to a certain point Optimatch) seemed to have a whole lot more anger floating around amidst the threads.

But like I said, I only got here a little before the release of Halo 2, so it might have just been me. Can anyone from early '04/'03 (or prior) help me out?

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

Hated the H2 speculation and I hate the Halo 3 speculation. Funny thing is, the threads are identical.

"Would you want to see _____?"
"H3 w1ll SuXxXor"
"Stfu you nubs"
"OMG THEEORY!!!"

It is strikingly similar.
