Subject: I bet you the brutes would have won in real life

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

If the brutes in Halo 2 and 3 weren't restricted to what their AI could and couldn't do they would have easily beaten the elites and the humans. Ex
Ecoally since they are way stronger than the games make them out to be, and they wouldn't be restricted to a few moves, and they wouldn't be restricted to carrying just one weapon, and they wouldn't just pimp slap you and do extremely little damage.

Discuss how the brutes would've won in real life

  • 02.20.2012 1:36 AM PDT

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

March 3, 2553

But in the books. They are retarded and stupid. They barely understand how to fly ships and reply on brute strength rather than tactics.

I think the Elites and Humans would still win. Just because you're stronger than the enemy, doesn't make you smarter than the enemy.

Hmm, I suppose

"We knew the world would not be the same.
A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent.
I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita.
Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says,
'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds...'
I suppose we all thought that one way or another."

And ya'know, ship battles mean much more than ground-side battles. They're all brawn and no brain. A tactical mind is necessary for spaceship battles.

Humans only won ground battles over the Covenant because of their tactics, that can be said for some space battles.

I doubt so.

IRL, in the middle of a battlefield, would you suddenly lose it, stow your weapon and charge the enemy, hoping to melee someone? You'd probably draw the attention of the entire opposing force.

Then again, you forget they were never given the CHANCE to learn how the Covenant ships work.

They are smart and cunning, in matters of battle.

You are applying human features to a brute.

If a brute can take a large amount of assault rifle fire a near-point blank range, their higher speed, agility, and strength can easily get them within grappling distance.

Also not they don't always do that.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Brutes could take a good amount of shots. Just look at the engagement at the Orbital Stalk in Cuba in Ghosts of Onyx. Fred almost got killed by one. Fred admired the Brutes for being smart there.

Down on the ground, the Brutes would be an almost equal challenge for the Elites and Humans. Up in orbit, they would get destroyed.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

In real life, the brutes would be so foolhardy that they would promptly be mowed down by incoming fire. Instead of shooting back, their comrades would charge. It's a vicious circle, and the brutes aren't known for their brilliant tactical thinking, which is required for nearly every type of engagement.

Oh look, people under estimating the Brutes...again. If the Brutes were "stupid" or "retarded" they wouldn't have reached tier 4 or even exist for that matter.

They may not be as smart as the Elites or Humans but that doesn't mean they're stupid. Combat wise the Elites and Brutes are almost evenly matched, the only thing bringing the Brutes down is they're aggressive nature.

Kinda pointless after they nuked themselves back down.

Yeah but they still got to that tier which proves that they're far from stupid in the sense that they were actually clever enough to develop nukes. The only reason why they nuked they're planet was because of their aggressive nature not stupidity.

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

Had the Brutes been given the proper tactical and strategical education that the Elites got, and where taught in the proper use of up-to-date Covenant technology rather than having to make-do with obsolete rubbish for 60 odd years, then I think there is a good chance that they would have destroyed the Separatists at the Ark. They had more ships after all. This is yet another thing that Truth royally screws up on.

The Elites are not exactly tactical geniuses. Once they lose the technology advantage, they have not a clue what to do. Cole sent their asses limping back to Covenant space multiple times when he faced them. With the Brutes, the Elites had the advantage of having a familiarity with the newer Covenant technology, and naval commanders that had experience in this field. The Brutes had so very little of either.

"Halo! Its divine wind will rush through the stars, propelling all who are worthy along the path to salvation."

The Brutes are brilliant when it comes to Combat. They just have Temperament Issues. Elites and Humans in the other hands, lack the pure brute strength(no pun intended) that the Brutes have, but have the brains. An Elite could probably outsmart a Brute.

Don't be stupid like I was! Check to see what that Forum Ninja is saying to you!

Brutes are incredibly smart. The reason though that most of them seem dumb is because they don't utilize any form of educational system.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

-Discuss the Brutes.
-Discuss real life.

You can pick one or the other.

I agree, underestimate an enemy = giving them an advantage.

Brutes are stupid, in matters of let's say math or art. But warfare? Combat? They are cunning and brilliant. The chopper for example. The engineer built it as a plow/tractor, and the brutes instantly took it and turned it to an absolutely deadly machine of carnage.

People also forget a major, major detail. A marine squad (no heavy weapons/no turret) faces a brute chieftain, or a group of brutes. Let's say they manage to kill a few and then the remaining ones or one of them goes berserk. You think the marines would sit there and manage to keep their fire/calm with a roaring, enraged brute going full speed (which is as fast as Master Chief at least) toward them?

Just to be clear, I think this is an incredibly unfair assumption to make. The ONLY thing we know of brutes is how their soldiers operate and some fleeting behavioral and hierarchy information (it should be noted that these still apply only to their soldiers). We have almost NO data on their culture; only how good they are at fighting.

Maybe so, however we know that their culture is very similar to how their packs behave. So I'm betting just like Krogan, the brutes don't have many poets or artists.

"Apparently people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. Rare, I assure you."-Lemmy of Motorhead

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

Fur and hide doesnt communicate well to plasma bolts or superheated plasma in the form of a sword. They still would have lost from the sangheili's and humans superior intellect and weaponry.

I mean, plasma is much more powerful if it were realistic, in Fall of Reach, Needlers are INCREDIBLY strong and hitting an unshielded target with one almost guarantees death at some point fron the shrapnel from the mini splosion. Brutes don't have energy shields (except in Halo 3, although not very powerful ones).

  • 02.20.2012 4:32 PM PDT

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

No, the Brutes are too stupid.

Again, I ask what normal UNSC marine would be able to keep his cool and maintain consistent fire and aim with a berserking brute in armor or not charging him at a rate of speed at LEAST as fast as Master Chief can move.

Again, I point out how a brute can take several mags from an assault rifle point blank with no injury.

Again, I point how the UNSC managed okay in ground combat against plasma weapons, why would brutes suddenly fail? Oh, and you know the fact brutes were kinda winning against Elites on High Charity. According to you they'd be slaughtered.

Edit: Nobody remembers halo 2 berserking brutes? You know, a few punches takes out chief and they are dang fast? They can slaughter marine squads and elites with some ease?
