I find it to a pretty simple idea, but through my time in the forums I haven't seen it mentioned...everyone seems to be on the premonition that the civil war is going to be as simple as elites, hunters and grunts vs the rest. I personally get the idea that the convenant has been in existence for quite some time, and alot of them would have loyalty to their commander regardless of race (though not all). I dont even see it as a civil war, but more as a revolution started by the arbiter, and depending on how fast he can spread his word and gain followers, it could either be seen as a quickly squashed rebellion by the rest of the covenant, or break out into a very complicated (in regards to races), all out war.

All these *theories* on which of the two convenant forces is on earth, be it the elite-hunter-grunt forces or its counterpart, are based on a lot on ifs and maybes. Personally, until more information on the matter is revealed by bungie, there is no where close to enough factual information to ascertain the situation of the conflict within the convenant.

Hmm I was thinking more along the lines of the story rather than gameplay, but it would make the gameplay more interesting too. Thanks for the input

Remember, that the Elites were betrayed, they didn't rebel. The Hierarchs ultimately planned to remove the Elites, for reasons as yet unknown (the fact that the MC killed one of them was only a convenient excuse). As we saw in a cut scene in Halo 2, the fleet around High Charity was blasting each other to kingdom come, presumably Elite controlled ships vs. Brute controlled ships. So we know that the conflict is widespread and not limited to a small faction. Especially given that the conflict was already taking place before Truth left High Charity in the Forerunner ship. Remember the broadcasted dialogue of he and Tartarus ordering the deaths of all the Elites. I bet we have a twist in the end of Halo 3, where the remnants of the Elites and their allies show up and aid the MC in disabling the Ark and saving the universe. After that it's anyone's guess as to what might happen.

That's my take on it anyways.

Well, nobody said the Elites-Grunts-Hunters have allied with the humans... It could be a 3 way war...(4, including Flood)

I'm sure we'll be fighting Elites in Halo 3.. It's not like Chief has sided with any of the Covenant.. That was just Sgt. Johnson and Miranda Keyes..

I really think they are gonna be, atleast temporarily, unified in a common goal of stopping the other Halo's from being activated.

The Elites were betrayed because they were to close to knowing the truth or their loyalt was in to much doubt. I mean the Prophets must have more doubt about their loyalt to the covenant because of the latest rebellion. The rebellion was big enough to call in an Arbiter so it must have been big. The rebellion also knew the truth so in the end the Elites were too close to the truth or their loyalt was in too much doubt.
