I'm a little confused after encountering this gametype in SWAT. It was on one of the newish maps, a HUGE spaceship with plenty of long corridors.

Now, I have a problem with pistols in any gametype. I've never understood the fun in a weapon with so little accuracy and range. But the pistol has its place, generally aside the assault rifle at the bottom of the weapon bucket.

But to put it in SWAT?

I can't think of anywhere it would be less appropriate. SWAT is all about precision, speed, and sometimes, range. To put a weapon with high inaccuracy and short range seems deliberately counter-intuitive. Almost as bad as SWAT shotguns.

And then to play on a huge map? (I had no idea that map was that big!) You literally have to run toward each other to fight. I spent easily the majority of my time trying to find people by running back to the nearest enclosed room where I'd seen action. Seems like the kind of simple balance problems that would immediately eliminate the gametype from the playlist.

Anywho, anyone able to articulate why swat pistols on a large map would be fun?

The pistol is a precision weapon, that is why it is in Swat.

And hey, don't insult Swat Shotguns, you probably haven't played that game type on LAN 16 player Halo CE Chiron.

You can't spell GARBAGE without AR.

Pace. Your. Shots.

The pistol CAN be a percision weapon, given that you pace your shots and scope in when neccessary. I suspect that you're one of those people who spam their pistol shots; they get on my nerves.

Fun fact: 9/10 users with no linked gamertag are better than you at Halo. That doesn't necessarily mean that I am; but it does mean there's a pretty solid chance.

I used to quite enjoy Swagnums on H3. I don't play Reach SWAT, so I can't really comment, but I assume you'd enjoy it quite a bit more on a smaller map.

Really, it's a small arms weapon that happens to have a scope. But, it is by no means that short ranged or inaccurate. It fits right in for Swat.

You need to know how to adapt to every weapons pros and cons to make it "acceptable". (Not to sound like a hippy) The thing with a pistol is you want to use it medium range, and it's pretty powerful if you work with it.

I tend to complain when I play SWAT Magnums, not because I can't do well with the pistol, but I'm a lot better with a DMR in my hands. I guess it's all personal opinion anyways.

I have one problem here. I can't comment on the map, because I have not played it (I don't currently have Xbox Live, and I won't have it until closer to my summer vacation, so I'ven't been keeping up on the goings-on of Reach multiplayer) but I can comment on your foolishness with a pistol.

Quite simply, I hate your type. I don't hate you as a person, but I hate the category I percieve you to be in - just as you hate the pistol because you percieve it to be in a certain category.

I hate to say it, because they're annoying, but the people who say 'adapt' are right. If you are truly good at a game like Halo, you can pick up any weapon and walk into almost any situation, and almost always walk out. I don't pretend to be extremely good, but I have the ability to use most weapons in most situations in a mostly competent fashion, and I'd say that puts me a cut above the rest - perhaps at the highest tier of mediocrity.

The thing about the pistol is that it is an extremely general purpose weapon. Yes, it does have a limited range, and yes, it isn't the most precision weapon, but the fact that you can not use the pistol in SWAT, a game you claim to be about "precision, speed, ... and range" is rather amazing.

I could sit here and criticise you more, but I don't really like doing that, and I feel I've gone into enough of a pointless tyrade. The point being, the pistol is a relatively accurate and ranged weapon - I know from experience, I oft clean the floor in Swat Magnums - and if you're unable to make it fit that niche, you're probably spamming your shots or simply not concentrating on your target. It's entirely possible that using the magnum instead of the DMR puts you into a different frame of mind - for some reason I'm better with a magnum than a DMR - in which case I think you need more practice.

tl;dr, you're doing it wrong, less QQ more pewpew.
