They didn't come into the timeline of Halo until Halo 2 I thought?

To whose brutes are you referring?

No.

Brutes were the first Covenant Humans encountered IIRC.

IIRC?

But in Halo 2 I thought Brutes came into the picture replacing the Elites, and in CE the Elites, Grunts, and Jackals and flood were the only enemies. So how did Brutes go from being in Reach to disappearing in CE and returning in Halo 2? It just doesn't add up.

If I Recall Correctly

He's talking about what happened in the Halo novels, not the games.

The Covenant always deployed elites over brutes in many engagements, but there were some battles (like the Battle of Harvest) that the Brutes were commissioned for. The only reason the Brutes play a huge role in Halo 2 was because of the betrayal against the Elites by the Prophets.

The Arbiter's fleet during Reach (aka wasn't the Arbiter during that time) that chased the Pillar of Autumn consisted of only elites, grunts, jackals and hunters, hence the reason why there were no Brutes during CE>

Because Bungie rewrites the fiction of Halo as they add new things to each game.

I intend to live forever, or die trying,

so far, so good.

You have not read the books,

It were the Brutes who attacked Harvest.

But Brutes were not created untill Halo 2, but since then the book "Contact Harvest" was released.

this is about the first encounter of Human and Convenant, and it has Brutes.

Also refer to post by "Arbiter777212".

That also makes perfect sense why no Brutes in Halo CE.

Thus taking the books they sell as canon and changing them into fan fiction.
