I say, whoever usually chooses the next forum moderator/ninja, should find 4-6 people he thinks would be good for the job. THen he posts a poll on them in this forum, and the members vote. We couldnt vote for people who would go crazy because it would still be up to him to choose the 4-6 people.

I myself have absolutely NO problem with any of the moderators. but i do know that for various reasons, other members do. I think they would feel more kindly and more leniently towards the moderators if they knew that they were elected by their fellow bungie.net members. This goes on in my main group, and so far all the council have been fantastic people who do their job well.

what do you all think?

Becoming a moderator shouldn't be decided by a popularity contest. Seriously. Even if Bungie selected a list of eligible candidates, it'd be a bad idea to put it up for a vote. A vote won't reconcile people to a decision... folks following American (or insert your nationality here) Idol know this all too well.

-- Steve's thinking that there'll always be people having issues with the moderators; some (but not all) of them are the reason moderators are necessary.

Absolutely right. A public poll would, to a large extent, change moderator selection from a well reasoned, authorative selection into a popularity contest. In an ideal world, people would vote for all the right reasons and this suggestion wouldn't be so easily dismissed, alas, this is not an ideal world.

To be fair I don't think your points are valid. As brickwall suggested, if the people who decide who should be the next mod choose a couple of eligible candidates, you won't get any unsuitable mods and it won't turn into a popularity contest because the voters can only vote for a select few.

A) The process slows down the time the future mods could spend moderating the forum.

B) The poll would belong here in the Septagon, and not too many of the members come here. So we wouldn't exactly be getting a good poll.

C) Hypothethical situation: Candidate A could be a great mod, while Candidates B and C would only be mediocre. However, Candidate A is not well-known, so he is not trusted. People don't vote for him, and he is not selected.

Simply put, if they are going to be trusted mods, why not just make them mods?

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

The only people who should have a say in who is chosen are Achronos and the other Ninjas. People will always have a problem with the Ninjas even if they were chosen by the B.net population. If it ever came down to a popular vote like American Idol and Ryan Seacrest is involved, then I am leaving this forum for good.

I think the system is fine as is. I beleive there was a problem with a popularity poll a while ago...

And what of those who were turned away? Seems like a fantastic way of making a good member into a bad one... Or at least an upset one. =)

Ninjas should be chosen by Ninjas. No-one else; but as Recon said, don't let the fact that an idea didn't work out stop you from trying again. Oh, and did anyone else imagine a terrible Italian accent when Recon said "The grey cells, they need the exercise"?

Or was that just me again... o.O

If a member is deemed worthy enough to be put into this poll of yours, they would be worthy enough to become a moderator without people voting for them. In other words, it's not that the current moderators vote on who becomes a moderator; a member just gets suggested for the position and as long as there are no objections, becomes a moderator.

In other words, it's not that the current moderators vote on who becomes a moderator; a member just gets suggested for the position and as long as there are no objections, becomes a moderator. quite true, but i think the members of bungie.net would be more satisfied if they knew that their fellow members elected the moderators.

oh and for the person who said earlier that not very many members ever come here... That is perfect! The members who visit and are cool minded members who are not hasty in their desicions, the members who post here are thinking about the future good of bungie.net and/or have questions about the future or something like that. So, that way it woudl be more fair because not many of the people from the flood, underground, optimatch, new mombosa... and *shudder* the halo 3 forum come here.

now, im not saying exclude them because in my opinion they would be welcome to do what we do, but it would control it and would make it much less of a popularity contest.

oh, and Recon, thanks for the speech(0% sarcasm)

and... flamechu for moderator? im not even going to say anything ;)

Just like ferret said, he woudn't make a good mod.

I might make a good mod, it's a possibility. Not a very high one. something in the lower billions of chances. like 1/99 billion chance I become a mod. But would people vote for me? not likely. Thats even less likely then me becoming a mod.

And how does this make the members who didn't come to vote (because they didn't know about it) feel better about it? Do you feel better about a decision you didn't know about because someone else agreed with it?

And don't get me started on the cheating epidemic...

In short, it's an idea that only works in theory. There are far too many problems to have it actually put into practice.

im not saying they cant vote, im just saying, i think the most impact would be from the septagon members, we could do like we do in my main group, everybody has to post why they voted for a moderator or something, if someone doesnt post, their vote gets taken off, no poll(in polls people can vote multiple times) would have to be used, and i think that the views and reasons of the people known to frequent the septagon woudl be taken into more consideration from someone who has posted the same thing 3 times in H3 forum. Im not saying exclude them, i would never think of something like that, i myself was excluded from cool stuff in life for years for various reasons, worst 5 yrs of my life, i wouldnt want to ruin someone's bungie.net life
