i think halo:CE had a better ambience about it. With improved graphics i would like the same kinda feeling in halo 3. Not to mention haalo 1 marines were so much cooler.

I want a hybrid of both. But that´s even harder when you´ve to filter out what was teh best stuff from Halo 1 and 2 (from the designers view) and make everything work right for Halo 3. Anyway, NAIL THE DAMN 30 SECONDS BUNGIE!!!!!
Halo 1´s combat was just much much much more fun imho.

He watches every Hodgetwin video they put up...on ALL their channels. He calls them the Hodge Triplets, and considers himself the 3rd triplet. He's started talking and acting like them now. Every other line out of his mouth "Thaaas some BULLLLLL**** maaayne" or "Gotta make dem gainzzzz". He calls his biceps "gains". When he eats post-workout, he talks to his biceps, "Don't worry gains, I'm feeding you. Daddys gonna feed you, gainz *kisses biceps*".

I think it should take after both, to a degree. Halo 2 had close-quarters intensity and its multiplayer is fast-paced and in your face, while Halo was slower and more methodical on the whole.

I think Halo 3 should go for Halo 2's intensity, but it should include some of the more open environments Halo had. On the whole, I'd say it should shoot about 75% for Halo 2 and 25% for Halo.

Well, let's see what the advantages of each game are.

Halo CE: More useful melee attacks, more useful grenades, better weapon balance, covenant elites were more challenging to defeat, comparitively open-ended enviroments.

Halo 2: Allies more effective, vehicle hijacking, comparitively epic 'feel', swap weapons with allies, vehicle combat more intense, better storyline, sword combat, more varied enviroments.

"nail the 30 seconds"

I think that Halo CE achieved this much better than Halo 2 did. Play Halo CE for a while and you'll realise that its just combat situation after combat situation, everyone of them intence in your face battles. Halo 2 seemed to miss this some how, the covy groups are too small and they just don't have that "right, I'm gunna run at you and keep running at you until your dead" idea. In Halo 2 the elites are more inclined to hide and shoot occasional bursts of gun fire at you. We want that relentless onslaught feel that we got from such levels in Halo CE as the silent cartographer and Assault on the control room. This hard on action style makes a much better 30 seconds for Halo CE than for Halo 2. When I play Halo CE I always say to myself "I'll play AONTCR, just to play that bit where you get a tank for 10 seconds" because those 10 seconds are worth playing the rest of the level for.

Well thats my two cents

Halo 1 was one of the best games I have played. Halo 2 was the most dissapointing games I have ever played.

So I want Halo 3 to be more like Halo 1, both singleplayer and multiplayer-wise.

Agreed, I think many of those problems were caused by Halo 2's horrible weapons set/massive auto-aim. The gun battles in Halo 2 were boring and required little skill.

Agreed with Freaky Bit

Halo 2 had some cool gameplay features, but I feel that the general atmosphere was much reduced this time, and some of the basic features of gameplay (such as animations, sound effects), were inferior.

As an example, check out the horrible spartan SMG melee attack animation, and compare the needler explosion sounds for both games. And also compare the plasma effects, the overcharged plasma pistol in particular.

In CE, it looks and feels much more like a giant ball of plasma (and for some reason in 2, a giant ball of green stuff that does no damage to health).

I think it should be a little of both. That would make the game pretty cool.
