we see it all the time... stupid people ignoring bungie rules or just not reading them at all, going around using the "N" word whenever they want. It's a disgrace!

So I had this thought, if we blammed the "N" word, people would get the point... that it can't be used AT ALL. I've been seeing it used more and more lately... with this inflow of people by the masses... and it may be a good idea to stop flame wars and to give the mods a break from saying "you cant use that word you -blam!- (substitute the "N" word there)

This is open to all debate... and while it will probably never happen it may be a nice thing to debate.

Considering how many variations there are on the word in question, it's going to be hard. There must be some reason they haven't banned it yet, which makes this sorta like a petition. Still, I'd like to see it gone.

Because people get all uppity about being called one. As such, it starts flamewars. Since we don't like flamewars, we don't like that word. As such, if people use it, they risk being banned.

And if Frankie catchs word of someone using it, they get banned. He had a nice little rant about racist people...

sigh* Dont you think its ironic that you guys are saying you cant use the N word cause it offends new players, but half of them think the N word being reffered to is the one against black people?

Just for the people that dont know they are merely talking about the word newb. For somereason the mods of this forum are majorly against it. I wont get banned for just telling new players what the N word is will I?

if you block out "the N word" as everyone calls it. you might as well block out the words, "dumb," "retard," "retarded," "ugly," and "dont like" i think that it is a harmless word used to refer to newer players and people can say much worse than that without swearing.

Okay this post will clear it up for people who don't know...

If the moderators will allow my saying of "Noob" in just this post alone I would appreciate it.

If you ever hear a reference to the "N" word it is referring to the word noob/newb/ any derrogatory form of "new guy." Saying it will consequently get you banned.

The reason I started this thread was to throw the Idea of blamming the word, just as a topic to debate and maybe consider. For those of you who don't know, -blam!- is bungie's way of censoring inappropriate material. So if the N word was blammed, people would use it less and it would start less flame wars because people wouldn't knwo what was under the blam.

People shouldnt be using the N word anyway, but people dont always follwo the rules, so this is just an idea on how to control it more.

The rules for forums are shown below; bold-faced and in red are the rules on the n word. These rules apply to all forums....

Posted By Shishka on 7/2/2004 5:40 PM

Forum Rules:

1. Please DO NOT advertise your chapter here. You can use The Classifieds for that.

2. No petitions.

3. Do not link to adult content or to sites that contain information on any type of software piracy. Do not discuss these topics, either.

4. No spam. No discussions about spam. Read on through this thread for more information about spam.

5. Impersonating forum moderators and/or bungie employees is strictly prohibited. Do not break this rule. You will be banned. No warning will be issued.

6. No bad jokes.

7. Seven is darker.

8. Bumping is illegal. Breaking this law has high consequences. Such as but not limited to: assignation by ninja, hippo licking, and/or complete forum thread annihilation. Or we will most likely just lock your topic. Don't bump!

9. Xbox hacking/modding discussions will not be permitted on any of the bungie.net forums.

10. Don't Flame each other. Use your manners and common sense. If you disagree with someone, do so gracefully.

11. Noob, Newbie, N00b, and any other variants on the word newb are hereby banned from use on this forum. Any user who violates this rule will be put to death.

12. No political commentary of any kind will be tolerated on the forums. These kinds of conversations almost always devolve into insult contests.

13. In the course of the large beta test program Bungie is conducting on Halo 2, it is inevitable that some jerk will take pictures of the game and sneak them onto the internet. Considering that these images, or any information that is released with Bungie's expressed consent is considered a breach of the responsible party's nondisclosure agreement, users found discussing these materials may find their posts deleted without warning. Further incursions, such as the posting of or linking to these pieces of information may result in that user's account being blacklisted. To make it simple: Do not post links to or discuss leaked beta information and images.

14. Do not create threads directed at single users. This is what the PM system is for. On a similar note, do not create threads to express your dislike of other users, even if they are spammers or flamers. This breaks both this rule and rule #10, which means double trouble for the person that does it. If you believe a user is a problem for the forums, message a moderator.

There are plenty of more rules I could list, but I mean only a brain damaged monkey would break them. Use common sense and your very best online etiquette. Read the Bungie.net term s of use and code of conduct for more specific bungie.net dos and donts.

Suggestions:

Use a spell checker to check your posts for misspellings. There's no point in making a forum topic if we can't understand it because of multiple spelling errors.

Don't use stupid abbreviations. (Example: Your = ur, You = u, Are = r, I = EYE, one = 1)

note that Shishka stated that any user who violates the N word rule will be put to death. If you don't know what a flaming Ninja is... saying the N word will be your ticket to finding out. Being executed by a ninja is NOT a good thing.

I hope this clears up the topic a little bit. The debate is still open to whether or not it is a good Idea to blam the N word, though I don't think it will happen...

You never know. A man can dream ;-)

only the N word is used in a derrogatory fashion. We were all new here once, but they didn't ever call Shishka a -blam!- did they?

Dont answer that that was retorical...

Then that would be favoritism, and if one person can get away with saying it, then everyone would be able say it, just to even things out.

No, that would defeat the whole idea of favoritism. The basic idea here is not of fairness, but political correctness. For a while, the mods let me get away with it, but they decided that wasn’t fair, even though the only time I dropped the big N was when someone was deserving of the word.

On a side note, I really don’t get why people take such offence to being called a noob. I was a noob once, and was called such by people. I’m still a noob in many areas, and I know so. If I had been coddled by people when I first came on, I would have never learned the rules. I would have been a little ass-wipe for a very long time, not knowing better. I would have went to other forums, thinking my behavior was appropriate. Thus begins a vicious cycle here. The old members hate the current state of things, and leave. The new people finally learn, and begin to hate the new guys, but they play nice. Eventually, the new guys piss them off so much, they leave, and the new people become old members. In a way, this leaves only the most devote members in the long run. People who can’t leave. On the other hand, if we start calling people names, these forums will become quite devoid of wimps who can’t handle it. These wimps will never have to experience the pain of watching new people turn the forums into a heaping pile of crap.

Blah, that was longer than I thought. The scenario described above was pretty much the state of these forums for many months. They have greatly improved and I’m glad to see many former noobs turned into good people who are truly deserving of respect. But remember, the cycle will start anew at the release of Halo 2. Better decide now if you want to stay or not.

I've given up on the word due to a threat of banning and the realization that it really doesn't help much. In the end, the people who stay are the people who stay. We just have to stick to them and not pay attention to the others.

P.S. The mods won’t ban/moderate you for saying the word in a debate about the word. At least as long as you keep the usage to the word itself and not point any fingers, like I did. I didn’t go out and say anyone was a noob. But we all know they’re here. And saying n*** shouldn’t get you out of anything because we all know what you mean.

If you were replying to me, you missed my point entirely. You can be the best Halo player on Earth, and be Bungie.net's biggest noob. It's all about eticate. Noobs are rude, don't listen to others, break the rules constantly, flame, post off-topic crap, and generally lower the property values of the forums. They don't know how to behave.

I look at them as children, they don't know how to behave, and we need to teach them. Why should we adapt? I've been here for over 2 years, and now I have to put up with Joe Noob's crap? That's not fair. There were rules aroound here long before he came, and long before I did. When I came, one rule was that if you posted stupid crap, you were called a noob for it. Simple really. Now, all of a sudden, we can't yell at these new people for posting crap? We calmly tell them to behave and yet they persist in making the forums bad? Why do i have to tolerate this again?

Bah, persistance paid off for now. The forums are doing better than they have since the new hotness, and some good posts are actually making a comeback. But we still get the arrogant little ass who comes in acting like he owns the place, or making a post about his favorite cookie, or flaming someone for having an opinion. Well, if he doesn't have to obey the rules, in the interest of fairness, I can call him that word which he so rightfully deserves to be labeled as.

 • 09.21.2004 10:17 AM PDT

All I can say is, if you don't like being unable to use any of the "n" words, you can quite easily post somewhere else, somewhere where they don't mind you using it.

Using it creates a gulf between the new members and the older members, with some older members using it to demonstrate some supposed superiority. This isn't good for an organisation that will eventually take over the world. So we banned it.

Exactly the point I always try to make; they should read the rules, or be victim to the punishments that they bring upon themselves. And one of the worst problems is new people thinking they have high authority - I remember some idiot in the Classifieds starting a thread and acting like he had supreme power over everybody else in there. Another good point there was the 'adaption' - there is no reason any of us who know the rules should have to keep clear of some imbecile who tries to invade Bungie's space, posting crap as they go. If they meet resistance, maybe they'll learn that what they're doing is wrong.

No offence Rip Saw, but I never used "it" because it because it seemed immature. Almost like a word a child uses to describe something that he does not like. For example, calling someone a "dumb head" or "weiner". :-)
