Altough i never use the word n00b, newb or noob (there! i did it), i don't think banning it is needed. It is a word thats simply means to indicate that someone is new. We should rather try to ban the people who use this simple word for wrong purposes. But that probably means we have to ban about 50% of all the peeps around here. So let us keep it the way it is.

Can i get an Amen?!

Spamming Bungie since 2004!

I've used the word noob before, but only when the person needed it. The word "noob" does create a social superiority between new and old members. I'ts used incorrectly. I'm with you, jaf, but against you.

Haha, The Big N. That makes me laugh.

yeah i agree we all start out as new people like when h2 comes along we will all be noobs except for the people who played the beta version
If you were replying to me, you missed my point entirely. You can be the best Halo player on Earth, and be Bungie.net's biggest noob. It's all about eticate. Noobs are rude, don't listen to others, break the rules constantly, flame, post off-topic crap, and generally lower the property values of the forums. They don't know how to behave.

Example: Neo117... he thought that since he was good at halo he owned the place. too bad he didn't. and he wast all that good at halo either. and yeah, it was through being constantly being called a noob that I ceased to be a noob (and beleive me... i was one of the noobier noobs ever... I called makaveli and ripsaw noobs frequently, because I was such a dumbass... and then when it seemed my reputation as a spammer/flamer was forgotten and my name cleared... the new hotness came and blew it all away... so sad.)

I personally take no offense to being called a big N when I deserve it. we all have to be new at some point

but it can be very offensive. its generally not a good word to be used.

it is also EXTREMELY MISUSED. You don't know how long someone has been playing halo for sure; they could just be stupid, or naive. but saying that people are a N can imply that the perrson MUST be new because they are that dumb. it doesnt come off as nice.

a good point that my friend doomsday brouight up is once again over misuse. I pose this question: if you are better than someone else at halo does that mean the are a N? No,it doesn't.

Either way, whether it should be banned or not, is not the question. it IS banned alreeady. Which brings us back to my original idea: why blam it? Because whether or not it should be banned, it is, and making it appear as -blam!- can be a good deterent so that people will stop breaking the rules

As a matter of fact, I find myself drifting towards the word 'idiot' rather than n*** now. Because that's what category anyone who can be classed as a n*** falls into.

However, being called a 'blam' could be worse than being called a n*** for some people.

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

No.

It's far too fun to see Rip Saw attempt to use it.

Ah, yes, the "Bunnies" incident. Thanks for reminding me of that, I needed something to cheer me up!

I think it's okay to use if you spell it correctly, if your using forms like n00b, then ya it should be -BLAMMED!-, and don't use it to call people here, even if they are.

I play AoE2 conquerors expansion online, and the newb word is almost never taken as an insult unless it is meant to be. A newb is merely an abreviation for newer player or memeber. Being a newb isn't a bad thing, its just that it can be offensive when used to insult someone.

Being called "the other N word" is very offensive, but it is only that way because white slave owners got a little bossy with the word to say the least. Useing "the other N word" now is offensive no matter what context it is in, and the word is replaced by african american or black people. I dont think the word newb in itself is offensive to very many people yet, but if it is treated as a word that is only used to be insulting, instead of a word used to refer to new players, more people will think of it as an insult instead of just as a classification.

People will use the word no matter what you try to do to stop it, so why not just regulate its use, instead of trying to stomp the word out of existance and failing?

I never said it meant a bad thing. The problem wih bungie forums is that there are so many new poeple coming in that N is being used as an insult. thats why they banned it.

but the question is: now that it is banned, should is be blammed?

Does anyone else think this is a bit silly?

new·bie Audio pronunciation of "Newbie" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (nb, ny-)
n. Slang

One that is new to something, especially a novice at using computer technology or the Internet.

Now, does anyone really *really* despise being called new at something? I think were taking the censorship thing a tad far anymore, in fact, I would fully support the ussage of n00b. It is in other words a "safe" word, and even if you are offended by it, its much the lesser evil of some of the words we classify as Taboo today. No one likes racial-slurs/questioning of -blam!- preference/extreamly derogotory comments. And stop with the "Big N" nonsence, its almost always used in refrence to a racial slur of african americans, not noob.

To be honest, while being more "family friendly" (or kiddy frienldy, whichever is more politically correct), censorship such as thus usually drives away more mature members of the forums. So all in all I think were going a tad over the top here, and need to chill.

Umm, just clearing this up, but by "N" word do you mean the racist version of negro(which of itself is still racist), or noob? If it's the first one yes it should be blammed because racism should not be tolerated ANYWHERE, especially here. And if you mean a new video game player who is not good yet...I don't really see any reason to blam that.

You people still don't get the point.

Whether the N word is allowed here is not up for discussion... it is a banned word. The fact that it starts falme wars and is also used in a derrogatory manner is probably why that is, but either way its still banned. the question is whether blamming it would help deter it's use, or at least when it was usedd a flam war wouldnt start...

so no matter how mature poeple are... there are alot of little brats on here.

if you block out "the N word" as everyone calls it. you might as well block out the words, "dumb," "retard," "retarded," "ugly," and "dont like" i think that it is a harmless word used to refer to newer players and people can say much worse than that without swearing.

The problem with this argument is that people are using it as a form of swearing. They find people that are deeply offended by the word, then repeatedly use it to put them down. When I sign on to a Live game, I don't want someone calling me something that I think is derogatory, I want to have fun.

As far as this leading to banning of 'retard', 'dumb', etc. I don't think that would ever happen because then there would be no end. The problem with the N word is that it has surpassed its origional meaning and become an extremely hurtful remark.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

I feel the urge to add Soffish to this. Doesn't Soffish have something to do with the afore mentioned subject? I'm new the Soffish... that site always makes me laugh though.
