Subject: Why can't we have a Filter/Block function?

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

I've noticed this on a few other forums, and thought it was neat. It allows a user to selectively block other users, or set up a filter to only show which users you want.

I thought it was kinda slick.

Why can't we have nice stuff?

GGGGGGggggggggggggGGGG

I thought you could block members already?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

No, I think it would be bad. I see people that are annoying occasionally. If they are breaking the rules, I PM a moderator and they will remove them from the forums if it is bad.

But if they only annoy you, without breaking the rules? Why not?

  • 02.23.2012 2:09 PM PDT

I'm kind of neutral on the idea, it would mean that users wouldn't have to flame people they don't like all the time, but it is also effectively censorship of other's opinions.

Well either way, they must be doing something bad to annoy you right? Unless its personal.

I second this. I already have a script that allows you to ignore users, link for reference. However I would love to have such an option integrated into the site. Such a thing comes in handy with shock site spammers who make the page massive with their spam.

  • 02.23.2012 2:15 PM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

I've always thought blocking someone would just be kind of lousy. There's no point, if they're breaking the CoC just get a moderator to ban them. And you are able to block PMs from people.

Seriously, blocking someone is pointless.

I was a finalist :P

Yes, I think it would be a handy function to the site. People shouldn't have to deal with others who continue to irritate them (for whatever reason), and a function like this would allow users to enhance their experiences on the site; which definitely a positive. No one would know who they'd be blocking, the reason for it, and it may reduce instances of flaming on that specific user blocked, by the one who blocked them.

Every time this comes up you always use the rules in your argument when it has nothing to do with rules.

If someone is annoying and I don't value anything at all that they say in any way whatsoever I should be able to block them.

That's irrelevant; it shouldn't matter if they're breaking the rules or not, it's all about the personal opinion.

Indeed, there are users that go to great lengths to annoy the piss out of others and do so in a manner that isn't against the rules hence cannot be touched.

What gives you the right to?

I find some people here incredibly annoying but I value their input. If I don't want to see what they say all the time, I just either A. Ignore what their annoying posts (because they may have some pretty good ideas sometimes) or option B, I post with people I like in private groups.

Really this is probably not something the webteam should spend time on. There is no need to make a new feature to ignore people. Everyone should have the capacity to ignore another user and if they have a problem with it, PM a mod or deal with it, everyone here has a right to post till it gets taken away by violating the code of conduct.

Wat?

We're not talking about banning the person. We keep telling you this. We're talking about you, the user, deciding to hide a user from your bungie.net experience. No one else.

It's like if I was to hold up my hand infront of my eyes whenever i scroll through a thread and see a the name of a user who I don't like.

What gives me the right? Erm... It's my eyes? It's my browser? It's my experience?

We;ve been through this before. Last time, you said this over and over, entirely ignoring anyone who countered it.

People who you like talking with would still talk to you, Ken. Why wouldn't they? And people who you don't talk with or don't like talking to would be the ones who ignore you.

If we had an ignore feature, you would still have every right to post. I just wouldn't have to read it.

You know, you could just not respond to people you don't like.

I know I have been warned by ninjas before about getting banned for responding to annoying people and I don't do it.

If someone wants to be a jerk, they should face the consequences. There is NO REASON why a user can't just not respond to another user let alone be a jerk to them.

You could already block people couldn't you? Or was that just for PMs...

Only PMs. I guess if some people really have no self control, they need this feature. I still think it is not something right for Bungie.net.

Not wanting to see jerks while browsing the forums means I have no self control?

OK. Let's say someone makes a thread about a feature they would like. Another user comments on that feature, saying why he thinks it would not be necessary. Then other users respond to that member, but he keeps on saying the same thing over and over and over. At this point, I realize he's not going to change.

Why shouldn't I be able to filter out the redundant person? He's not adding anything to the discussion. I've already responded politely to him to no avail. Why can't I just turn the unnecessary voice off?

I would like to thank OP for this thread. These type of threads always bring out the stupidity in people. Same as ban IP threads. I try to get into as many of these threads as I can. Because it's just plain funny. It also raises the webteams awareness on this topic.

No it has nothing to do with the rules. In fact lets call it quality control. The mods punish people for breaking the rules. They do not quality control content posted on this site. Better still, each person on this site has their own views and insight on their own quality control of this site.

In my own view, I might see posts from a certain user below my quality bar for content that I wish to see. I may want to clean this up. So I hide them.

It's not about don't reply to people you don't like etc. It's a case of I want to filter out the crap on this site.

Your voice doesn't need to be heard. I don't want to hear it on this site. If you can't understand that, then the next question I need to ask is have you got any social problems that prevent you from understanding? -blam!- this topic is discussed a lot. You're always here like "no i want to be herd!".

1st point: If someone is being a Jerk, they are breaking the rule "Don't be a Jerk" and you should PM a mod. If it gets too bad, that user may face moderation.

2nd point: No one said you have to respond to any user. YOU are the best ignore feature.

But at this point I don't care. I really do not think we need an ignore feature, it is not right for Bungie.net, but everyone wants it.

Wait OP, do you want the post like the blacklist notice? Completely blocked?

I had a suggestion a while back in which ignored users would be collapsed just like a reported user...it would be like a cookie on your browser that lists all the users you've chosen to ignore.

How about you stop for a second naming reasons why we don't NEED it, and start listing reasons why it's BAD.

There's a large number of things on this site that we don't NEED, and yet have (and nearly everyone likes them). With this in mind, your entire argument thus far is irrelevant.
