If was watching some old gameplay, and I had forgotten how much fun the Mauler was. And how useful. It was probably my favorite combo in the game to have a BR/Mauler and a good teammate. That's all I needed to enjoy myself.

The fact that it was in MLG proved that it was at least respected...even though very few people consistently used it (well, someone always used it on Guardian rather epically).

One of the greatest losses in the changeover to Reach was the loss of this fun weapon in my opinion. Is there any evidence that it or a gun moddled after it will be in Halo 4?

When compared to the Reach/ CE Shotgun, it's pointless.

And those are how the shotguns should be.

Duel wield maulers=shotgun.

Dual wielding=a mechanic that only serves to weaken weapons when they're standalone and effectively and purposefully inbalances the sandbox.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Reach Shotgun. But I hate that they removed a weapon that would have been at least used to change things up on maps. I mean, the Plasma Repeater is a copy of the AR, and the Plasma Rifle and Spiker are the exact same weapon in Reach, and to emphasize the point let's bring up the golf club, so it's not like they don't have things that fall into the category of "unnecessary".

well duel wielding doesnt need to do that its just one of those norms that people tend to do even though their is no point to it. duel wielding should do one thing and one thing only make it so you can hold two weapons at once not make weapons weaker for balance reasons becuase balance of weapons is decided with single weld not with duel weld duel weld is ment to take away the balance

Actually that's not how it worked. The weapons were very well balanced in terms of damage when single-wielded vs. when they were dual'd. When you picked up a second weapon, the non-plasma weapons' damage was reduced by 25% each, meaning that two spikers did 150% damage and had twice as much ammo. It was a smarter mechanic than people seem to realize.

Reach's sandbox sucks. That's a given. But having another weapon there for the sake of "variety" when it's outclassed by another weapon just doesn't make sense.

And the Repeater and Plasma Rifle need plasma stun while every single weapon needs a buff (besides the Shotgun, Sniper, Rockets, GL, and Fuel-Rod).

I'm not comparing the standalone weapon to the dual-wielded version. I'm comparing it to the rest of the sandbox, mainly the BR. The fact that you had to go grab the other weapon for the weapon to work is just sad when there were standalone weapons that could do the same job and better.

Nope. SouthPole isn't a person. He's the avatar of the force of tryhards everywhere. He stalks the web looking for retards to set straight. He can not be stopped by mere bans or thread locks for he shall rise anew.

It was good in MLG, but in the normal playlists it was pointless when there was shotgun, sword, and the hammer.

Sniper + Mauler was preeeeety sweet though.

But it adds moar variety!!#$!#$!#$!!T%!$%

What if the single wielded versions stayed at 100% dmg, while duel wielding them made them 150%?

In terms of actual damage, most of the weapons were stronger than the BR in a one-on-one fight. The problems always related to both the accuracy and range of the weapons being used. Up close, an SMG is ridiculously powerful. And that's not using a beatdown. The BR won out against things like the Spiker because unless you were close and had the drop on them, the they could easily strafe and jump around and avoid shots while their weapon was far more accurate and not given to missing shots as harshly.

The only reason the sandbox was unbalanced, is because for Halo3, dual weilding weapons did 30% less damage.

This why dual weilding in Halo3 sucked.

Halo 2 was perfect, they did same damage alone or dual weilded.

Agreed, they totally killed Dual Weilding in Halo3, because of this.

Dual Weilding in Halo3, the weapon did 30% less damage. What Bull.

I hope dual weilding is back in Halo 4, and weapons do 100% damage no matter how you use them, singally or dual weilding.

Maybe make Dual Weilding less accurate, but then your a Super Soldier in the yeaar 2500.

What is funny, you have recoil on the SMG, but you can flip a Scorpion Tank Over.

Honestly, what killed dual wielding in H3 was the AR. No reason to pick up dual SMG's if your AR/Beatdown combo is as fast as any power weapon.

Mauler: Shotgun that requires an extra slap in the face.

Never found it was really needed in the sandbox of H3, and certainly isn't needed in Reach.
