I dont know if this has already been mentioned, so forgive me if im repeating any topics. However, i thought i should bring this up: The attack force shown in the Halo 3 trailer is not the one that attacks earth in Halo 2.

Now it may sound weird, but hear me out first. In Halo 2, Earth was attacked by 15 covenant capital ships. At least one was destroyed in the battle by the MC, and at least one other was warped out by regret. Which means that, at most, there should be 13 Covenant ships at most around Earth.

However, in the trailer, there are over 20 ships in the background. This means that, unless Bungie made an error, more ships arrived at Earth. This brings up a whole new list of possibilities. For one, does this mean that a bunch of Covie cruisers followed Truth after he warped out with the forerunner ships? Or did those ships arrive while we were at Delta Halo? An even more interesting possibility, is it possilb ethat the ships in the trailer are under the control of the Arbiter?

Whatever this means, i just thought that i should have brought this up. Once again, if this was already brought up, i apologise. Anyway, discuss.

No it's not. Read the Weekly Update before you post. Frankie describes it as an excavation force, we have no idea when it came or where it came from because we don't know how far into the game the trailer is portraying.

good theory but truth or some other covies found something during the first assult (the first assult was likley a recon party thats why there are only 15 ships) so the second wave (seen at the end of halo 2) was a excavtion force

If you study any military strategies at all, you'll realize that not all assaults are in one wave.
The Forerunner ship was a 2nd or even 3rd wave, and in H2 in a cutscene, the Prophet of Mercy tells MC that Truth is going to Earth to lead the Covenant fleet.
