Subject: Dead Groups You Refuse to Leave

Any of you guilty? If so, which ones and why?

I find myself unable to click that button for a couple groups that haven't had any activity for months (or longer). Can't really explain it. I don't expect activity to ever pick up in these groups and in some cases, it wouldn't even be possible. Is it that I'm happy I was accepted and don't want to wipe that from my B.net resume? Is it that I'm fond of the memories created in the group during its hayday and don't want to further remove myself from those experiences by cutting the cord?

I think Atlas is a good example of how a lot of active B.net forum goers remain in the group but don't post there; to remember the good times there and the fun we had building, sharing and getting our maps added to Matchmaking.

I think for others, personally, it's a combination of some of the things listed above with a few other sentimental reasons that keep me tethered.

What's your excuse?

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Pimps at Sea RPG: Built it from the ground up with a few others. Want to bring it back someday, but for now, good memories.

Sad Pandas: It was such a funny time, banding together when the Halo 3 Friends and Family program tanked. Who knows, I might have a reason to dust that group off some day.

CompoundIntelligence: Who would want to leave such a profound group! It would definitely be the first to get its generators fired up again if Destiny starts with a bang and an ARG.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

The group was deleted. It was what got me onto these forums on a regular basis. Miss it, but I've moved on.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

I'm in a couple of groups that barely have anyone posting in them, but I wouldn't call them dead groups since there are still people posting in them.

$.50 in store credit.

Atlas is one of mine. I also refuse to leave most of the groups i founded, even though some have been dead for years. H3CGF hasnt had a post since 2010, but there's still something like 150 members left, and i check in from time to time even though no one posts.

  • 02.24.2012 7:23 AM PDT

I only feel strong attachment to the groups that I played some part in either making, or moderating. The rest were mostly ones that I just posted in from time to time.

As for Atlas, I still have refused to leave in the hopes that it will be revived in some matter in the future. Also, it is "Requires Appoval" to join and once I leave I won't be able to check back in on it.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Atlas.

Agreed.

I guess all the talk about Atlas in here explains why my request to join two years ago (I think) never went through.
