There's about 6 billion people on the planet today. And one country can gather an army of at least several thousand. So, my question is, where are all the human troops in Halo 2 and 3. With there being several planets inhabited by humans, and all of earth populated, wouldn't there be more ground forces to deal with the covenant? Instead of just a handful of marines and the Chief! Seriously, where are all the helicoptors, aircraft fighters, artillary, etc...that should at least be mentioned in the game. For Halo 3 I hope bungie takes care of this . In Halo 3, I hope that there will be bases, med tents, and all of that, like in the first bit of Halo 2 gameplay, that was in New Mombassa. That way it would make it seem as if you're actually fighting with an army, instead of just you and a handful of dim-witted marines. That and I would like it if an air strike or two could be called in.

Just my thoughts.

Yes I was hoping that would be civillians in Halo 2, though hopefully they will be in Halo 3. They could possibly be like the Bobs were in Bungie's Marathon game. Although alot of them, running and screaming would get old.

But mainly I just hope that there will be military bases and air strikes. I mean, there has to be at least some resistence left on earth. It can't be ONLY the Chief.

I understand were you are coming from because in less than 50 years we had ww1 and ww2 and in 2006 were like got billions of people so how the hell can the human population not be that big on Earth when they had like four hundred years to get there population up again when in fifty years our population went up tons considering we had the gulf war and everything. On Earth now all the military together make up, at most, multy billions of people that includes some civilians who help out; thats all the countries military together. So stop with the sorry excuses everyone about a stupid big ww3 war taking it's toll.

We have no idea what's going on in the trailer. Did it look like a battlefield to you? Didn't to me. What makes you think you should see a human army there?

We don't know what things are going to be like in halo 3 - the trailer seems to show a location that is pretty imporant to the covenant - somewhere they might want to keep clear of humans.

As for the lack of ground troops.... up until the fall of Reach (read the books) the standard procedure for a covenent attack was for the covenant to destroy all space based resistance, and then 'glass' the planet. Ground troops would be unlikely to be much use in that situation, and the same argument could be used for in-atmosphere air support. All military activity is focussed at space defence.
But remember - most of the activity in the first two games is off planet, with support for the MC only coming from solitary, poorly equipped, unprepared vessels.

As for the lack of civilians... maybe the earth simply has really effective, rapid evacuation plans. Or big underground bunkers.

Hell in a respective tactical situation as shown during halo 2, there would be no chance for the humans, it would be another reach like incident. Their best hopes are to flee the planet, run like hell. The few battle clusters around earth should have given them enough time to get the hell out of there.
