Honestly, this is a good cover up for all the idiots who won't know its a cover up .

Before joining up with the Covenant, the Mgalekgolo and the Covenant fought in what was known as The Taming of the Hunters. In this battle, the only reason that the Covenat won was through the use of aircraft, etc. On the ground, the Covenant almost always lost. Therefore, the Mgalekgol must have built their Combat Armor (or what would become it) in order to accomplish this. So my question is this:

How were the Mgalekgolo able to build their Combat Armor? Granted, Te was abundant with Forerunner artifacts, but the Lekgolo would eat them. Wouldn't they eat metal before turning it into armor?

And for those who say that they didn't have Combat Armor, how did the Elites lose against big eels?

Eels that could form a conglomeration of any size and shape that they wished...

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

This, plus their numbers were in the trillions in pretty much every little space in the system they were found. A bunch worms that could individually infiltrate, then regroup to a huge size is a major threat.

Not to mention that the more worms that congregated into a mass, their localized intelligence increased just as much as their strength. More worms means not just more brawn, but more brains. Hunters, despite their hulking size, are VERY intelligent.

I forgot where I've read it, but I have read that Hunters often recite poetry.

  • 02.25.2012 10:56 AM PDT

That's from one of the books, where an elite says "they would tear their enemies limb from limb, then pause to recite war poetry"

Hunters are actually restricted to size limits when they serve in the Covenant, but on their own world, they could do whatever the hell they wanted.

I don't care if you're 8 feet tall, you're going to lose against that on-coming colony of eels the size of a scarab.

Another problem was that Te's gravity is twice that of the Elites, making them slower on the ground.

It's worse than that. Te is actually 4G, Sanghelios is only 1.375G. The Elites would be completely knackered in a fight, weaker and clumsier. Mind you they use powered armour as well, so maybe that helped. (Assuming they used it back then)

Ah, right, thanks. I was thinking of Palamok, the Drone world for some reason.

Straight from the wandering mind of Watson 203

I think there were also a few factions of lekgolo, some that ingested Forerunner along with other metals and some which only ingested non-Forerunner metals. I'm sure one of the Halo wiki's will have adequate information on the subject.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Could the Lekgolo originally have "possessed" Forerunner armor? Just building up and within any metal structures could have provided rudimentary "armor."

  • 02.25.2012 5:14 PM PDT

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

Quite possible IMO. They could have possibly taken over covie weapons and vehicles too.

(Proto-scarabs FTW! =P )

Doubt it, sure they could have hid in it but not used it for fighting or anything.

"Maybe you should get it off?"
"It pooped out armor so I don't want to touch it"

  • 02.27.2012 1:10 PM PDT

They were very dangerous then but I must say at that point hunters did not have a mini scarab gun on their hand.

Also if not for the Arbiters the Covenant would probably not have won ?

Watch this. Look how many guys it took to take down.

Now imagine billions of those. A whole planet of them.

"I'd have to say Lockout was the worst"

I'm pretty sure that's heresy, and that it conflicts with the "Code of Manliness" - page 792, section E subsection D paragraph 3.2. I suggest you relay that statement.

OP, it's a big jump to assume that amour was the key aspect of the hunters' victories on the ground. As other posters have said, on their own planet the hunters had a massive home court advantage. It very well could have been that their armour had a much smaller roll than you think. I don't know if you can make that kind of conditional statement.

I was assuming that Elite Combat Harnesses work similarly to MJOLNIR systems. Since the Flood can't get through it (or let alone touch it), I was thinking that maybe the same thing would apply to Lekgolo eels as well (they can't really do squat against armored Elites). We'd also need to know how a Mgalekgolo colony acts naturally (are they still bipedal quasi-humanoids, or something more akin to a Scarab?).
