You said that behaviour has been decreasing since 2001, and who is responsible for behaviour? Moderators, so you did not make your meaning clear enough for me. If you took offense to that, then sorry.

Moderators are no way responsible for a persons behavior. They are responsible for punishing those with bad behavior.

By saying the standard of behavior has been slowly degrading (since "the new hotness" pretty much) I meant the instances of off-topic posts, spamming, trolling, and other no no's has been on the rise since 2001. Thus the amount of BL's has been on the rise.

I just think the mod's could use a little help since there will likely be another boom from Halo 3. TGP said there are 7 mods that regularly post, I have no idea out of all of them how many are active in moderating. I suspect more than 7, however with as much attention as the Halo 3 forum will draw (has drawn) it might cause a few holes in the defenses.

The mods do a great job, they aren't super human though. They might not be able to cover the ground that will be caused by the release of Halo 3.

I explained all of this in the "what do you think of the mods" thread.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

I wouldn't mind it, but it'd be fine if I don't.

People think that being a moderator is the greatest thing in the world. I have news for you, it isn't. The job of a moderator is not an easy one. As a moderator you have to patroll the forums cleanning up after those members who don't follow the rules and try and make them understand why you blacklisted them after they PM you claimming they did nothing wrong. I used to be a moderator at another game site. Just as these forums have, we had spammers, flammers, and trolls. I know first hand that it is not easy putting up with them and it is because of my experience as a moderator I have a great deal of respect for the moderators on this site. Especially any moderator that braves the Halo 3 forum.

I think part of the draw to being a moderator here on B.net is they have things normal members do not have. The prospect of having a custom avatar and white text is very alluring to normal members and they elevate moderators to a neary god-like status because of this. They do not realize that along with the avatar and text comes an obligation to uphold order on this forum, nor do they realize how difficult that is.

As for the question of would I be a moderator, I highly doubt that anymore moderators will be chosen anytime soon. However, if by some act of God I recieve a message asking me to be a moderator on this site, I would exept it. I would be honored to be part of this wonderful moderation staff that keeps these forums running as smoothely as they do, but it is not something I am going to hold out for because I highly doubt it will happen.

I thought I was the only one who Sketto was antagonizing via private messages and the public forums.

Anton P Nym (Steve) is from Canada, eh.

I do not know if I would like to be a moderator. I could clean up the forms, exercise my previous moderating experiences, However, I would be very harsh, and it would require a lot of time spent at your computer.

Is it really being part of Bungie?
I think it's more like taking out the trash.

Bingo.

As for me, well... I guess I'd do it if asked, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get the job.

Moderators have a influence on the behaviour of the community, like police officers have upon the crime rate. While they can't do anything about the random spam attacks, If they punish enough they can improve behaviour.

As for myself, I have not seen any change in behaviour since 03, but I might not be as observant as you hip hop.

Yes they do have and influence. Yet at the same time no one says "the cop wasn't doing his job" everytime someone breaks the law. So it would be wrong of me to say "the mods aren't doing their job" just because some people choose to ignore the rules. Their "influence" is mearly a symbol of authority, in a real world scenario this functions far better than on a forum. Posters still have a choice in whether or not to obey "the laws" no matter what. Initial negative actions cannot be prevented before they occur. Once they catch the first hammer over the head (or jail time), yes they likely won't do it again. But with an influx of new users, comes new opportunities for stupidity.

I'm was simply voicing my opinion that when Halo 3 comes the community will likely "spike" again (which seeing some data that TGP posted, it should be calming back down from the E3 hotness) leaving a poor mod who is the only one left with a possibly scary workload.

It's my hopes that the tightening up of the rules will suffice, that no knew mods will be needed. I'm just voicing my concerns for their mental stability.

I <3 the mods. Great work guys.

To be a moderator, I'm sure you have to qualify for alot more than just being for at least a year or more. Yeah, I think being a mod could be interesting, but they probably feel like they have enough anyway.

Not fussed. I've got my cool avatar so I'm happy... but then I'd save a bunch of time pressing "lock" myself rather than getting Jim or Toast to do it.

i don't want to be mod but i wouldn't mind having my own avatar like sir Fragula, how did you get one?

It really doesn't matter much to me if I become a Moderator on this forum or not.

Many people always hope that they can one day become one. My opinion is I will enjoy this forum if I am a moderator or a member. I have been browsing the forums and website for a few months now but only now found time to actually create an account.

Is there a minimum level of participation required from mods and ninjas? Like post/thread quota's etc etc.

No. It's a volunteer job. I mean, okay, I could just go off and not moderate at all, but that's rather unethical.

I hardly call pressing a couple lock, stick and ninja buttons a job. Maybe a duty, a voluntary duty? Eh? EH?! Makin' sense?

...Thought not.

I don't think most people realize how much time is spent by the moderators on this website. It is not fun, if thats what you're thinking.

Cool. I imagine most people would miss the absence of a Bnet moderator anyway, so probably a good thing that you guys volunteer and stick with it.
