I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask. But how do I get better at Halo:Reach? I can't find any good tips anywhere. The stuff I do find always seems to be discussing the basics like communicate with your team mates (You know--those guys who don't have mics!), pace your shots with the DMR, go for the power weapons, etc. I already know to do those things but I still end up sucking more often than I would like to.
Are there things I can do to get better other than just playing more?

EDIT: As a quick disclaimer, I don't really consider myself good at Halo:Reach. Maybe okay but not good.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

Play Halo 3. Seriously, there are less things to hold your hand and you will need to "adapt" to the higher skill gap present.

Either that or play playlists like TU Slayer or MLG where there is no bloom present.

Or play Halo 2 vista with a 360 controller.

I'm listeni- Oh wait I don't give a -blam!- what you have to say.

Play MLG, play with people better than you. Watch pro gameplays in theater as references.
If you are capable of improving, you'll know. I guess some people just lack the dexterity to ever become good at games.

It doesn't really matter so long as you get BR starts.

Ranked would teach you how to improve quicker, but unfortunately all ranked playlists are plagued with derankers.

I didn't fully believe Halo 3 was going to help me at all until I proceeded to get utterly annihilated in a ranked match.
I'm going to have to practice, a lot.

There ya go.

Don't be afraid to utilize Theater to see what the more positive players did to acquire their numbers. Same with people with tons of assists.

The following matches haven't nearly been as hard to be honest. I'm really debating whether or not I should keep playing Halo 3 or swap to something else like MLG on Reach. Especially since Halo 3 feels kind of dull in comparison.

Not if you are trying to get better at console games.

Someone needs to make a decent server, because all of the ones up now are all something retarded. The only bearable settings are when they give you a BR and a Sword, and I don't know why the sword is even there.

Try getting more kills with the BR than with the brute shot before you come back to Reach.
I've been playing reach for about a month, and I can confidently say that I am a better player than you. Why is this? I played Halo 3 before I ever touched Reach.
And I didn't play H3 in the glory days. I played it the way it is now. Full of derankers and cheaters. This made me a better player.

If you're ever down for some 1v1, I can help you work on your strafe and accuracy in Reach and H3. I can also help you to memorize the maps you play on. This may sounds silly, but know your surroundings is crucial when you're trying to survive.

hey its buddha i 1v1'd u. here are some tips. stop chasing-chasing will distract you, and leave you as a target to get naded. get as many shots in as u can, just because u didnt kill them doesnt mean u messed up. u lowerd there shields or even health and that makes it that much easier to come back and kill them.but dont rush! 9 out of 10 times if you chase ull die haha. get good with sniper and strafing. octagon helps alot with strafing. play on bumper jumper. and always have an escape route, you never wanna get caught in an open space. be unpredictable- like if you run around a corner keep dont be obvious that ur gonna go in a certain direction after that. Don't challenge, its fun to do that with friends in 1v1 an -blam!- but other than that its pretty risky an dumb. always control high ground, and dont let them get you one shot, if you can get away before they pop your shields and your weaker than them, dip the -blam!- out haha you dont have magic bullets that will slow down time for them and speed up for you haha. become familiar with the maps, say if ur not looking behind you but you know that theirs a jump there. every game is different also...you dont play 1v1's the same as FFA or Team matches. know how to crouch jump and pick your kills wisely, going after the first person you see isnt always the best choice, make sure your clear before you start trying to kill someone. dont be one of those kids that throws grenades in the middle of a dual, it shows that uve given up and it makes you stop shooting, and dont be one of those kids that gets in the way of grenades and complains about it

Stranded at the gas station of love using the self-service pump

I would recommend making friends with the players who are beating you. Instead of getting upset over a loss or sending trash-talk messages, send a friend request and ask for specific tips/strategies from good players. From there, play custom games with those players and have little skirmishes among yourselves to get practice in a no-consequence setting. My fiancee is making friends with a number of players that beat her and she's making friends all over the place and improving rapidly.

@Marche Eclispe: I was so terrible with the Battle Rifle in Halo 3 that I never bothered to use it. It never really seemed useful to me. It was hard to aim with, had this weird 3-Round Burst function, and didn't seem to kill as fast as the Assault Rifle. Hence why I don't have many kills with it. I do acknowledge now that it's actually a good weapon but I'm still terrible with it to be honest.
I played Halo 3 before Reach. Although not very well. I guess it hasn't helped me as much as it has for others. I wouldn't mind some help. I'll add you to my friend list when I get the chance.

Questions for AyoPARA: When did you 1v1 me? Why should I play on Bumper Jumper? What's crouch-jumping?
