I am...whimsical today.

Sorry if this has been said before, but I couldn't find a search function.

Does anyone know what Gravemind is? I've heard that he's an Uber-Flood, a Plant, a Forerunner or a host of other things, but I as wondering what he really was? Does anyone know? Or is it just speculation?

  • 05.22.2006 11:19 AM PDT

Facts are the enemy of tru7h....

Well we're not exactly sure what it actually is...

But we do know that the gravemind is made up of the Floods fallen enemies. We don't know if it is made of forerunner bits or human and Covenant bits...Really anything apart from that is pure speculation.

Oh and there is no search function on these forums.... yet.

I'm sure Gravemind is human, demon, and creature.

No, he couldn't have forerunners in him. Gravemind would have to be um... created after the Forerunners activated Halo the first time. It killed everything alive remember?

The forerunners must be homicidal to do that.

Have you played the first Halo? They did it so the Flood wouldn't take over the galaxy, silly-head.

who sais the gravemind couldn't have been around since the time of the forerunners? we don't know whether or not delta halo has been fired. guilty spark said that the first halo was fired in halo:CE, i don't remember it being mentioned anywhere in halo 2 whether or not delta halo was ever activated. i think it would be an interesting spin if the gravemind was something the forerunners actually created and then in the end ruined them.

It says so in 'The Art of Halo' book.

o jackals, sorry, just making sure. and where did it say that all halo's fire simultaneously? if all halo's fired at the same time then there would not be any life in the known universe. am i right? it wouldn't make much sense to think that all of the rings were fired, but mayber i'm wrong. does anyone ever recall it being said that the entire halo system fires all 7 rings in unison?

kk thanks

Another thing i'm not too sure about is what the Halo's actually kill. It said in the game that it was anything with sufficiant biomass to sustain the flood, but what does that leave? Microbes? Do they eat trees?

Anything with sufficient biomass and cognative ability (sentience). What qualifies is also a matter of speculation as we don't actually know. We do know that the Flood needs a certain amount of calcium to be able to / want to take over a host. So that may also be a factor in what the halos actually kill.

since the flood is a parasite i would think that anything larger than it's infection forms (the little popcorn flood) would be suitable to sustain it. so things like birds, smaller fish, lizards, etc. would more than likely be spared. but i'm just guessing.

Other than rumours and speculation, we have nothing to go on, tre only theory that makes sense is that he is the flood, the collective mind.

We have more than rumors and speculation. The Art of Halo says that he is a flood form made up of the bodies of the floods enemies and fallen combat forms.

aside from the art book you really don't need to be a genious to figure that out. the very first time you see the gravemind he has already absorbed two people that are visible to you.
