If a post is reported, YOU think it's against the rules, but that doesn't mean it actually is, which is why the ninjas take a look at what's reported and determine the appropriate action. That appropriate action could be a ban, or a warning, or locking a thread, and maybe even doing nothing at all; but that's not for you to decide.

Never said it was. The point I was making was that moderators sometimes [often] miss threads that clearly violate rules; I've only seen two legitimate threads that didn't blatantly break the rules have the OP's post hidden by reports, but have seen dozens (read: John Cena) that just get missed, sometimes ending up in hot topics and remaining on the front page.

The point isn't to usurp the moderators, it's to get crap off the front page when the moderators miss things.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Exactly. If this feature was implemented members would just report threads they disagree with just to get them locked too.

8/5/08 Bungie Favorites- NoEnd
7/1/09 Bungie Favorites- RECON Devil
9/9/09 Bungie Favorites- Champion
5/22/10 HaloCharts Favs- Prey

Too much room for abuse.

Perhaps it should be up to us to decide! I propose a tribunal of community members picked at random (active members, of course) to choose the fate of every item that makes its way into the report queue.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

That would kill off way too many good threads

Nope. It's far too easy to abuse the report button. Because of that good threads that aren't rule breaking could be locked for a long time.

Mods can lock/unlock threads, so if they think the reports are in error, it could be re-opened again. I believe the case you're speaking of would definitely be the minority.

But... that defeats the point. If mods have to check to make sure the report button was used correctly, it is making moer work for them.

The Gigga -blam!-h has returned -blam!-!

Quick question:
When you are first or pretty much only one to report someone. Does a mod get the report or only when multiple users report?

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

People have a habit of reporting posts that they disagree with. On a busy forum the locked thread will be on page 2 before anyone can do anything about it. Locks should not be subject to groupthink, they should be based on the rules.

"I don't like this guy, and he has a successful thread. I am going to report him as many times and on as many alts as possible because I just don't like him. That'll show him what for!"

Кланяються мені!

Lots of things can be abused its a terrible to say "Nope it will be abused" and walk away. Posting on the forums can be abused too so by that logic it should be taken away.

1. I don't see it often where rule abiding OPs are "hidden" because of mass haters hatin'. I doubt an auto locking would be abused.

2. The last I heard abusers of the report system can have the ability taken away. A wise ninja would be able to weed out the wrong doers and issue justice.

3. As of now I do think the Mods can handle the number of reports. For obvious reasons I'm sure they don't respond to every "call" but when the new IP is announced such a feature would take a load off.

4. Finally if such a feature was added, a mod could easily be required to review the thread. If the mod deems the thread OK a very simple unlock would suffice.

5. Bungie has faith in the Mods, so should everybody else. I do :)

I'm neither for or against this idea. I think things are fine the way they are, but if the webteam and ninjas think a feature is necessary I believe the bullets above suffice as reasonable points of view.

It takes about 8 reports before it gets put into the report queue.

When a post has the that censored message over it, it means the post has been flagged to the mods.
Alright. Thanks

Does anyone have lotion?
*Raises hand*
Is mayonnaise a lotion?

No, because the trolls would run the forums.

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

No, there are some good discussions that people report just because they don't agree with the OP.
