The rings in the trailer are reminants of the "space elevator" that has collapsed, it served as a trasport between the Battle Cluster and Earth's surface. It can be seen on the title screen of Halo 2 (where you select Campaign, split screen, etc) if you watch it you'll notice that the what you see is the city of New Mombasa with Regret's cruiser hovering over. If you look toward the center of the city you'll notice a large structure that extends skyward off screen, that is the space elevator.

Who knows for sure since it magically dissappears when they show from above.

That whole trailer is beginning to look cut up. The scene cuts and the Banshee that just past the MC is way out there and the wreckage is not scene and then the scene cuts to the direct path the Dropship was taking and it too is mysteriously gone.

That trailer is unreliable and not very consistant. Either Bungie made a lot of bad cuts or it is a total trick.

In 3d animation the whole area functions as one. That would mean that at least 3 times I see where it went from one 3d world to a totally different one missing items that were there before aren't there anymore after the cut.

I am sure Bungie was like.. Oh let's remove these 9 ships and no-one will notice because they are too busy wach the Ark and the moving Capital Ships.

I think it is a lot of hoo-ha to keep us guessing.

Let Bungie answer this question wiht a yes or no.

Is this trailer a legit one scene or is it cut from a 2 or 3.

Experience with 3d Animation makes me say those ships are missing for a reason.

1) They were manually removed on purpose for memory reasons
2) They are 2 different scenes spliced together seemlessly to appear as one much like real movie trailer.

A space elevator....right. Why the hell would they need a space to earth elevator when they have ships that can just swoop down from space and drop off cargo? While I cannot definitively say what the large structure is, I can, however, say that it's definitely not a space elevator. That just seems a tad impractical.
