When the Halo series came out, it was more than just the game itself that enthralled me. It was the universe it was set in. The books (and ilovebees.com) helped make it real. Each little comment about 'The Hog' or 'Chatters' or Reach made it a little bit more like the world we live in. It became über-realistic, a place one could almost live in, or a place you could tell stories about.
I feel that the storyline in Halo 3 should follow and add to this world. Perhaps some more forerunner technology to add some liquid-nitrogen cold chill to the plot. An ancient artifact designed to destroy the universe added fear and determination. The part of the Halo series that chills your bones, or the part that leaves you wondering just how big the universe is, should be brought-out.
This universe helps as gamers escape our own grey world, filled with nothingness, waiting for the purple-blue hues of an ancient glacier or the crisp redness of alien armor.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

i will agree that the halo world is fantastically designed, but dude it sounds like you need to unplug a littlle more often.

Unplug? It's the same thing with star wars, to a lesser degree. It's a virtual universe, not just a virtual world. One of the big draws of video gaming is that it encourages escapism, which helps video gamers. When one sees the Master Cheif, one is like "that's so cool, I wish I was him" but when you have a virtual universe, you're like "I wish I was there, doing that". When you combine the two, you get one pwnzor combonation.

I agree, that halo does enthrall you in a universe which is very easy to fall into. However, it sounds like you may be experiencing it in a bad way. Real life should not be replaced with halo, which is what is sounds like you use it for. It is good to get into the game, and the characters, but not to an extent that it is better then your real life. You should take a halo vacation man, and find yourself, before you lose yourself.

No, it's not as if I have some sort of addiction. Have you ever read a good book? You were probably experiencing escapism. I'm not saying that you should fill yourself with it, I'm just saying that feeling as if you're really on a giant ring-world with crystal-clear rivers and fresh mountain air can get you away from the stuff in life that isn't quite so much fun. Life is kidna bland, you need to spice it up a little bit, add your own flair. That's why video gaming is so important: Imagined worlds taking place in real time. You don't think that Fable was made by a bunch of boring guys sitting in an office and saying "You know what? We should make some creatures called Balverines and populate the forests with them". They imagined those forests, and the creatures that inhabited them. It's like creative writing, in a way.

Fable is cool. I remember several months back when i would always read up about the halo story, and in a way it did become kind of real to me. And the books are awesome and contain a whole lot of information, as if it is a true story told by someone who actually been there.

Actually, i've just had a revelation: this escapism i've been talking about is the thing that makes MMORPG's so popular. Since you're a character in the game, it feels more realistic, therefore convincing you of the RPG universe more. Escapism is one of those underlying forces that makes people like games.

What exactly is this ilovebees.com thing? I went there, but it was all screwed up. What is the bees stuff for? I thought it was some sort of halo site, but it's kind of wierd.

It wasn't "screwed up". It's supposed to be that way. It was 'taken over' by a rogue AI called Melissa. This AI sent out messages about a storyline in the Halo universe, which were sent to payphones at specific times. Eventually, all the messages were compiled, re-ordered, and posted on the website. Find the compiled, re-ordered version here . You can download them, and listen to the story unfold. It was an advertizing campaign for Halo 2. Be warned, the story is long: about 30 minutes for each chapter, eleven chapters plus an afterword. You'll be addicted for awhile.
