The Forerunner, the Great Journey, and Heaven Theory

[Announcement Trailer] Halo: Forerunner

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

The only thing that needs to be crushed is your opponent's sense of dignity. There's nothing better than raping some nerd and calling him a -blam!- ass mother-blam!-.

Definition of raping:raping is a type of -blam!- assault usually involving -blam!- intercourse, which is initiated by one or more persons against another person without that person's consent.

Wow seems unfortunate that you wish to commit this sort of crime.

Orly?

You appear to be one of the lightweights that I was referring to earlier.
You're just the coolest. I guess if no one else pats you on the back you have to do it yourself.

Most girls I've been with were hesitant about taking it in the mouth. But once they did most would swallow. I got tons of compliments on the taste.

I think it's because of my diet. No fast food, no alcohol and lots of fruit.

Oh. Man.
Let me tell you a thing or two about being a "lightweight."

Sweetie, you don't look cool. You don't look tough for calling out "nerds."

I have been gaming, as a female (sorry for the gender card, kids) since I was twelve years-old. I have received death threats, pictures of genitals, pictures of weapons (knives, bloody knives, nooses, guns, etc) and lesser personal attacks. People have gone miles over the line with me.

If you're going to play a game, I'd suggest you man the hell up and learn to play, win, and lose, with dignity. People like you are why many women, minorities, people of other certain preferences do not participate in online gaming communities, let alone play online.

Let me repeat myself. This isn't cute. You're not impressing anyone with this smug approach to being a jerk.

This is what you look like to us.

If the point is trying to alienate yourself on Bungie.net and be seen as quite the twerp, you're very proficient at it.

More on topic, yes, I believe there is a line, and it's at the gap between having a little bit of fun jabbing at a friend you know can take the joke, or just goofing around with friends, to straight-up bashing and insulting others. Every gaming community i've been in (Bungie, World of Warcraft Guilds, Clans, etc.) have always drawn the line there. Slamming people you don't know, and claiming to be hardcore afterwords isn't cool at all, it just makes you look like an arse that's out for attention.

If I had one wish for Bungie.net, it would be to be able to change my username. Even if it cost me Microsoft Fun-Money, Space Bucks, or Stosh Dollars. That is all.

Oh lawdy...

Trash talking is part of the game. Being a jerk is part of the game. The Internet, and Xbox Live for that matter, is uncensored and it should remain that way. Not everyone is going to smile when they lose and congratulate a worthy foe when they defeat them.

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

It's only part of the game if you *make* it part of it. I've played hundreds, even thousands of online matches in any game where no-one trash talked, and we all just had a good time, laughing and joking. No ad hominem/insults required. Being competitive means respecting your fellow competitors, not being the rowdiest in the room. The fun of competition is having a friendly and respectful match against opponents, not tearing them to shreds verbally, as not everyone can take the abuse as well as others. Myself? I can laugh off most anything and dish it back just as well, but some people either can't or won't.

Don't lecture me on the nature of the internet.

I trash talk more than most people I know. Trust me, darling, I know what transpires in an online game. Teabagging someone and making a joke about how classy their mother is does not bother me. I know how people act online. I know about the post-game trash talking and what happens when people win and lose.

But you prancing in, glorifying the idea or raping "nerds" is, for one, outside of the game and makes you look like a fool. You're trying to look "hardcore" when you talk about the "nature of the internet."

I am not asking for the internet or XBL to be censored because I have an oh so fragile state of mind. I'm telling you that what you're trying to justify is not okay. Your inability to keep your gaming trash-talk on XBL is what disturbs me, and honestly offends me.

I'll take my leave from this thread now. I don't have time for your disingenuous assertions.

Before I became a hardcore halo player I spent all my free time playing basketball. Trash talk was half the game. Trash talk is an art and can be rather beautiful. Two destroyed knees later I started playing a ton of video games....

I never start the trash talking but I do relish in it. I try to have fun with it.

I am (or was) a beast at Halo. What can I do. All I do is win, win, win no matter what. Beating bad kids and talking trash is part of the game. I'm not looking "hardcore". I'm just verbalizing what every non-goody-two-shoes-Bungie's-ass-kissing player out there feels like.
Your inability to keep your gaming trash-talk on XBL is what disturbs me, and honestly offends me.
Where else am I trying to trash talk, if not but XBL? And I'll take a hearty stab at this [ :) ] but why are you getting offended if you aren't "oh so fragile"? Per my own advice, you may need to get out of the kitchen.

That's the problem.

To use your own analogy, it's not the "heat" in the kitchen, which is something you can't do anything about. If this is a kitchen, the stove is on fire. And that needs to be stopped fast.

Trash-talking has a cemented place in every single medium of competition since the beginning of time.

It manifests itself from the Ancient Greek Olympics, to modern sports, to gaming, to school yard kickball, to everything in between. It's going to be there from now to the end of time and nothing anyone anywhere does is going to change that.

Now, on the subject of -blam!- harassment and verbal abuse, something like that needs to be nipped in the bud. Once again, its a facet of competition that, while not as prevalent as trash-talking in general, is here to stay it seems. However, it is not acceptable at all, in my opinion (and I would hope the same goes for the rest of you).

Trash-talking can and usually is a welcomed tradition that can be done with both tact and politeness. While it can, at times, escalate to ad hominem et cetera, it is usually playful in nature and is taken in stride as a way for opposing teams to communicate confidence in their own skills at any given competition.

Verbal abuse and -blam!- harassment of any kind in the gaming world is completely uncalled for. While some people may deem it an appropriate action due to its commonplace nature, it's just ridiculous that people can't, in this day and age, just mature past that schoolboy-level sense of humor.
This! Can't talk this 4 shot bro!

Get on my level! Trash talk makes online gaming fun! Sad that some males/females/children can't handle it. I think females probably handle it the worse, lol.

Oh man, if I had a dollar for every time I saw "kitchen" in this thread.....Look buddy, trash talkin maybe part of the culture but there's a line that exists....and that line is crossed on an hourly basis. That is something that should not exist...anywhere.
