A few months ago I was replaying Halo and Halo 2, when a thought struck me. Were the Forerunners humans? It may sound crazy, but I’ll explain my reasoning. In Halo, in the last level, the Maw, if you get to the part where the Chief and Cortana are about to remotely make the Autumn’s engines go critical from the bridge, you hear 343 Guilty sparks voice. At one point he says this, “… how exciting it is to have a record of all of OUR lost time.” OUR time. Guilty Spark was made by the Forerunners. So why is he saying our lost time, which would mean that the humans were the Forerunners? Except the Forerunners destroyed themselves, right… Also, in the Halo book “First Strike”, when the SPARTANS are in a series of giant caverns in the planet Reach, one of them, Fred, notices a bunch of Forerunner symbols look nearly exactly like ancient Aztec symbols, which are found on earth. The next thing is this: why are humans the only beings who can be used as reclaimers? Why not one of the thousands of Covenant walking around? And what are reclaimers supposed to reclaim, anyway? Well, if you’re using the humans=forerunners theory, it makes sense. Humans could only be the reclaimers because Monitors would recognize them as the only species capable of using Forerunner tech (even though Covenant can use it too). Reclaimers are probably supposed to reclaim the galaxy from the flood by depriving it of its only natural food source. And now, ladies and gentlemen, the grande finale: At the conclusion of Halo 2 we learn that there is a primary firing center, a place that could remotely activate all the rings, which were built by the forerunners. This place is earth, where humans live. The E3 trailer of Halo 3 confirmed that there is indeed such a place, and this place looks exactly like the firing centers for all of the rings, which were built by the Forerunners. In my opinion, Forerunner tech on earth can only mean one thing: that the Forerunners were humans. The only problem with that is that the Forerunners were presumably wiped out, but humans are a very adaptable species, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they somehow survived. I also think that what Dr.Halsey found had something to do with this, and that that is the reason she ran off with Kelly.
P.S. If this were true, that means that all the Covenant would end up worshipping humans... cool.
