I think the concept of SPINOFF never gets across to these 'True Haloers'.

Spinoff =/= worse gameplay.

Halo 2 MM was very different from that of CE, and players still enjoyed it because it was COMPETITIVE.

This is a HUGE fail imo and just made the game worse. We'll see how long I play the game after this update.

It's like expecting Halo Wars to have the same gameplay as any other Halo. Reach isn't part of the main trilogy; it doesn't need to play like the main trilogy.

Halo 2 had to have similar gameplay as Halo 1; why wouldn't it have similar gameplay to the game it was a sequel to? Same for Halo 3 to Halo 2.

Reach isn't a sequel, it's a spinoff. Think of it like a tree. You have the main trunk - the main trilogy - and you have the branches - Reach, Halo Wars, the like.

I'm pretty sure there is still hope to change this around. Forget about these derpy casuals and unite under one banner. Even if we have to get banned to get our point across, we can't simply allow Squad Slayer to die. Hell, it makes me wonder why they wanted to remove Anniversary Squad as well.

I'm starting to think this is more of a troll update than a real one. They could have removed Objective and place it in Squad Slayer.

Halo 1 through 3 were a main trilogy. Things of course changed from game to game but the general concepts of utility weapons being mighty, bleedthrough, and the golden triangle all stayed the same.


Reach is a spinoff from the main trilogy. It did not follow the story of anything we knew of yet, Bungie made it without being chained down into their own corner. It is a side game from the real deal. Somewhat to introduce new concepts into Halo and give them a trial run so they can be perfected in later Halos, and somewhat to originally help Bungie in their future endeavors.


True CLASSIC Halo gameplay is indeed the trilogy of the series, it was what it was known for. Reach shook it up, but just because Halo 3 isn't more populated than Reach doesn't make Reach any less of a side Halo thing.


We may yet again see the real classic gameplay return to us for Halo 4 and it's trilogy. Maybe not. I doubt we will see classic in it's form of 1-3, but rest assured there will be no shakeups as big as Reach after Halo 4, since that will be a trilogy.

Reach being a spinoff is no excuse for offering garbage settings to players.

It's a prequel btw just so you know.

Expecting a shooter in a franchise to play like other shooters in the franchise is not the same as expecting an RTS to play like a shooter. Everyone here is dumber just for reading that aborted attempt at a simile.

Reach isn't a sequel, it's a spinoff.
It's a prequel, actually.

And for the last time, the issue at this point is more fundamental than the gameplay mechanics being different from the predecessors. The problem is that the gameplay mechanics are bad. These latest changes make the game worse. We're not complaining because the game is different, we're complaining because it's worse. Jeez.

Here I was hopeful that this update would continue to make progress with instated changes thus far. Now the limitations of this game in any sense, not just from a competitive standpoint, are soul crushingly poor.

How is slower movement better? How is it better to pair more powerful grenades with said slower movement? How is pausing a multiplayer game for five seconds better? How is breaking intended map flow with the press of a button better? How is the formula "three shots + melee = melee" better? How is randomising the outcome of utility weapon battles better? How is spawning with camo instead of having to control it better?

HOW THE -BLAM!- IS ANY OF THIS BETTER?

Reach was intended to play differently. Why the hell do you think they included Armor Abilities and different weaponry? To play the same? Christ.

I mean...I suppose it's understandable, also. You had generally the same type of gameplay for 9 years if you started back in 2001? Then something of this magnitude shakes it all up.


But despite justification, it doesn't change most of you are looking through rose colored glasses.
It is not worse because it is different, it is worse because the difference is clearly a step backwards. This ten year old formula has proven it's superiority in terms of general feedback, playercounts, competitive events, you name it. We aren't concerned with this game shifting to a more casual audience anymore, we're concerned with this game shifting to an audience that has absolutely no idea what it wants and how these changes differ from the prior games which they haven't even played enough to form a concrete opinion of. There is no justification for changes being introduced purely for the sake of change.
