Subject: The state of Halo 3

"Your destruction is the will of the gods, and we are their instruments."

I thought, that it was about time to start a new thread were we could discuss the progress of the game.

Now we know, that the multiplayer is already being tested. This propably means, that Bungie has got most of the coding done on the game engine, and there are propably a few maps ready also.

They had an entire games worth of stuff for HALO 2 which they scrapped and extended for 3 years.

I don't think it will be out in 2007. And if they want good quality they will do just that.

Also, whatever happened to that PHEONIX game bungie said they were doing? A cover up perhaps.

I've never been to the state of Halo 3, but I've heard it's nice this time of year.

Sorry, I'm in need of caffeine.

Well it appears the Halo 3 has been in development for quite sometime now, approx. 1-1/2 years so you would expect them to have a lot of it done by now. Seeing how they have about another 12 months left of development they're probably about 35-45% done with Halo 3. So I think the state of Halo 3 is indeed in good standing. If the multiplayer is up and running and single player levels are "blowing minds" then Halo 3 looks to be a sure fire hit (well duh!).

Ummmm, you do realize that the Source Engine uses a modified Havok physics engine right?

Source for the above statement?

Thanks dmbfan.

I'm pretty sure that H3 will use a custom built engine this time however, after some of the problems with havok in H2.

Damn. I just read that Havoc article. Sounds nice. Is that what you're using for H3?

Just a tidbit, they did state they started working on Halo 3 "right after" Halo 2, if that's true they have a couple years on it.

Seeing as Halo 2 hasn't been out for two years, yet, I'd say you're wrong.

Havok was the physics engine used in Halo 2 ... the one with all the bugs like superbouncing, and bouncing corpses. Sounds great on paper ... works pretty bad in reality (and limbs are straight when falling in ragdoll mode, as if not affected by gravity).

Bungie has been working on Halo3 shortly after Halo2 was completed...I don't believe that the game will be any less than stellar when it arrives. No hype necessary...Bungie knows what they're doing(and they have probably been working the longest out of any MS devs or MS friendly devs with the 360 hardware).
