Always up for REACH customs!

Sorry for yet another one of these threads but I have to say what was so bad about the update is not any of the changes in particular but 343's failure to adequately explain them.

Evade has been part of Reach for a year. It's many people's favorite AA. But now it's gone. Why? No explanation.

Squad Slayer was very popular. Now it's gone. Why? To appease the Vanilla lovers by allowing regular Team Slayer to continue existing and give us "Super Slayer" as a replacement. It's not a replacement. There's no party restrictions and there's Armor Lock. But of course, not a word about that.

Infection and Grifball updated. Great news if you're ten years old. What about the Invasion updates we were promised a month ago? What about the fixes to Arena people have wanted for months? Not a mention of those.

Bleedthrough removed. Why? I'm on the fence about that decision, but having it removed this way doesn't make any sense. "We've listened to your feedback?" I thought the TU was the product of community feedback?

Not a mention of better DLC integration. Not a mention of quitters.

It's just arrogant and rude how little they listen to the community and how casually they ignore the most desired and easiest fixes.

Immortality: A toy which people cry for, And on their knees apply for, Dispute, contend and lie for, And if allowed Would be right proud Eternally to die for.

They cater to casuals, That's why Halo 4's multiplayer will suck.

343i are trying to much to be "accepted" by the community by promise thing that at the end might not be accomplished.

The thing that bothers me most is the lack of invasion updates. It's the little brother sitting alone in the dark corner.

It's quite funny (and sad) that the little true skill I might have gained over the year in squad slayer is now gone since a 'new' playlist is coming. This meaning instead of getting semi bad players to face against I'll be having to start all over at square one. New playlist = new true skill which = steamrolling over players for about a good year straight until I finally will go against players that can go -5 instead of -20 lol

I don't see why they had to get rid of squad slayer, it was great.

  • 03.01.2012 8:30 PM PDT

It isn't that they aren't listening. The PROBLEM is that they're 'listening.' Bungie listened to the community, made the game, and boom. Done.

343 took this game, listened to the people complaining, and made changes. The problem is? Not everybody will like every change. So THEN the 'community' wanted things changed back.

Basically? 343 is listening to whomever is complaining without regards as to what is right or good. Why? Because the people that are complaining are always the loudest. Take the posts within this thread for example.

"I'd have to say Lockout was the worst"

I'm pretty sure that's heresy, and that it conflicts with the "Code of Manliness" - page 792, section E subsection D paragraph 3.2. I suggest you relay that statement.

I believe it was in the O Brave New World video that other game developers were surprised at Bungie's actually listening to their community. They listened to the community because they were a part of the community themselves. They've been listening to their community for 10 years now. They've gotten good at it and we've become spoiled. 343 may still be trying to get on their feet. Give 'em some space, and allowance for good intentions. See what happens, they'll get better, but if it all falls through in the end...

Bungie no longer runs Halo. 'Nuff said.

If you didn't Play Halo: CE or Halo 2 MP, your opinion about Halo means nada.

CE + H2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> H3+Reach+H4

It's a kids game.

This game does absolutely nothing to appease a more competitive crowd outside of the MLG playlist which is updated every 6 months.

I think this is the first time I've ever agreed with your viewpoint on anything.

A competitive players main goal is to win.
A casuals main goal is to have fun regardless of whether that results in a win or loss.
It has nothing to do with individual skill or knowledge, it has to do with the reason you play.

Halo 3 starts to seem to be last great Halo game on the franchise.

They cater to people who play Halo for fun like they always should have, That's why I won't like Halo 4's multi-player because I am too busy aggressively increasing an arbitrary number on the screen which generates fun in my head.

Fixed.

The logic of a lot of people on Waypoint.

^Totally. Bleedthrough. Super cheesy, err Slayer. Ignoring all the obvious (and simple) issues like Prisoner spawns. The whole thing feels like one big troll. Theory: 343 is comprised of people that got called 'Reachtards' on here and decided to ruin all the arrogant bnet trolls and tryhards lives by driving them gradually but completely insane.

Somebody needs to figure out how to set up some sort of system that like, sends you an invite to join through a custom hosts' account when you click "Join" in some public custom system. I mean, I've seen a couple attempts, but they're little more than forums organised for the purpose. If we could find an active custom, click a button, and relatively easily get into that game directly, we wouldn't need all of these MM shenanigans. We've got ZB and bleedthrough and all that in customs. Hell, I'm pretty sure even I could fix the Prisoner spawns.
People could set up 'servers' where a controller bot or something like that operates matches, maybe rotating through a set of maps and gametypes, and spawns on it's own team somewhere off-map.
You could even play no-limit games. I used to love those back in the day playing Team Fortress on the PC. Drop-in, drop-out, base to base combat with protected spawn zones and awesome maps. We could do that so easily, if we could figure out how to make customs public.

Remember the other big sci-fi double trilogy? And how well it's second trilogy was received, in contrast to the first?
Remember, Reach and ODST are just spin-off titles essentially. CE/2/3 are the core titles, and 3 was supposed to be the end. I have a feeling in a sense it really was.

Halo 2 indeed was the best game of the series, but Halo 3 was a good game, especially when you compare to games after it. I believe nostalgia effects my judgement, thats why I included 3.

I agree with you on this, but my gripe is with the removal of the Squad playlist. Bloom, reduced bloom, no bloom, and bleedthrough aren't that big of an issue for me. But they're messing with mah squad with apparently no explanation.
