I remember for Halo 2 they used soccer moms and people who dont play games...

Maybe for Halo 3, hire MLG's top 8 teams to playtest the game for balance and such? Help ensure a more balanced game?

Hopefully they won't get soccer moms in to help balance things this time ...

But I'd imagine that they'd have another internal multiplayer beta nearer to release for MGS testers and Microsoft Employees.

Why not Halo 3 needs the biggest skill gap ever to make the game challenging and fun. Besides we will have true skill in H3.

Actually, you remember incorrectly. The often misquoted and misunderstood "soccer mom testing" was not playtesting of the game, but market research testing to see if the game was accessible to people who were unfamiliar with console-based FPS's. In other words, to see how instinctive and natural the games controls and layout were.

Kind of like when marketing groups get random people into a room and ask them what they think of a particular ad campaign, color scheme, or corporate logo.

Playtesting was done by (if my memory serves) Bungie staff, dedicated play-testers (including hardcore gamers) , and selected Microsoft employees who were chosen to test the online play and matchmaking system.

ahh, i see now...

so, is there any chance of bungie using MLG players to test balance and such?

Probably not, unless those MLG players are on the Microsoft Game Studios Beta Team.

So the question is What went wrong?

one more thing, i really hope they don't use mlg players to test the game, becasue mlg players are a small portion of people who played halo 2. i'd rahter have people who are familiar with the programming who can spot bugs, glitches, and other little things that mlg players would look past while griping about how "that rocket guy should totally be dead after that sweet 3-shot br i just did! what a total noob, he just noobed his way through that one!"
all i know is, halo 3 will be supa-dope. im totally cereal.

Personally I think you need a wide variety of people to test multiplayer. You need people good at spotting glitches. You need people good at the game, to help with balance issues and spot potential problems, and you need people with the imagination to try and break things.

If they're looking for volunteers, I'd step up to the plate.

People that never played the first two, or played them very little. Seriously, they are.

Officium quod Fidelitas.

Bungie play tests their own games internally and if you're really that concerned pop open your Halo / Halo 2 manual and check out who did it last time around... odds are they'll do it again.
