Welcome to the fourth installment of Community Joes of 2012. We're starting off the month of March with a gamer who has been a fan of Halo since the beginning.
Q: Who are you and where are you from?A: My name is Hunter, and I am 18. I am from a town just north of San Antonio Texas. I will be attending the University of Texas at Austin next year.
Q: Texas, Eh! Is there a particular course that you will be taking?A: I am going to be majoring in computer science. My dad is a website developer, and computer engineer, and it would only be fitting to follow his footsteps.
Q: What do you do for a living?A: Haha, I thought about answering that one in the last question, but didn't know if you cared.. This summer I will work as a manager at the city pool, where I have been working for three years. Pretty easy, and I get to chill at the river and watch drunk people make fools of themselves.
Q: Haha, Those fools! Let's ask you about that user name/gamertag, Where did it come from?A: Ooo, well when i got my Xbox, 12? I was a HUGE monkey fan. So it only made since to include them in my gamertag. I was also a big halo/shooter fan at the time, and camo was really cool to me. Naturally I put the two together and bam! Personally I would like to change my gamertag to Kid_Woody after my last name/what people call me but I can't change my b.net username so I have just kept it camo m0nkey.
Q: How can you be a fan of monke...Ah, never mind, but What was the original Bungie title you picked up and how did you get into it?A: Well, I used to have a Nintendo 64, until a storm came and short circuited it. My parents then got me an Xbox for my birthday, not knowing it didn't come with a game? So my dad took me to the local Target and the first thing I saw was Halo "Game of the year", so my Dad bought my 7 year old self a M rated title. I became a huge fan of the game, and have loved the game ever since. With Halo: Reach as an exception.
Q: Yeah, that sucks, I still have one of those, but this isn't about me. What aspects of gaming do you enjoy the most?A: I would nowhere near be the gamer I am without the introduction of Xbox live, the ability to chat with people, and play with others is awesome. I have always been a huge pc game fan, but I can never play for the amount of time I do on Xbox just because no one talks. I am a social person, and being able to communicate is huge for me.
Q: Silence is deafening. What are your other hobbies/interests aside from gaming?A: Well, this year I played varsity football. We had a heartbreaking loss in the first round of the playoffs, after getting seeded high. My main sport though is Track, I run the quarter, and the mile relay, and I actually have a shot a going to state this year if I get my time below 50 seconds for the lap.
Q: I was in track. I'm not much of a runner, sucked. There were things to be thrown so I throw people. So, tell me why Bungie? What made them appealing to you?A: I think when I came here, I loved how the community was so open. It was nice, in a sense. Really the first video game forum I had ever visited, so I made my home here. Of course they have a great site layout which I love. I think what made me keep coming back though was how involved they were in the community. I could go to any other game developer site, and not see the devotion displayed here. And I guess I also stayed because I loved halo 3 screenshots.
Q: Screenshots! Do you still take them? If so, who do you share them with?A: I love screenshots. Sadly I don't take them anymore. Halo: Reach didn't carry the screenshot capabilities most of thought it would. But in Halo 3, shots were pure gold. I ended up making Bungie Favorites twice, once with Epic Pic, and with my current group Mythic Photographers. I made a lot of great relationships through the screenshot community though. After the fall of Epic pic and the formation of MP, we hit a high within the community, our members constantly getting spotlighted, videos of us being made, screenshot nights, Bungie Favorites, everything. Although once Reach hit, the spark died, old photographers tried, but had suddenly lost their spark. It was really disappointing for the screenshot world as a whole.
Q: Aw, that must have been bad for the group. I saw a lot of great screenshots in the bungie favorites. Were there other people who you associated with online, because of these events of Halo 3?A: Wow, there are quite a few. MarineManiac, who actually started MP, The U2 RoKKeR, Spade193, DomDaBomb, Xizor17, COL0NEL SANDERS, Commander GX, Stealthsniper, Munchie, Hellraiser...and there's alot more that I just can't remember.
Q: Yikes, that is a lot! So, if there are halo photographers that want to take screenshots, where do they go? Are they people that would like to the time to help and teach them?A: I would suggest going to the many screenshot groups around Bungie.net; Mythic photographers, Epic Pic, Point and Shoot to name a few, and there are plenty of others. Groups are the best way, as you have a lot of different minds working together to give the best opinions, not just one person.
Q: Yeah, those are all great screenshot photographer sites! Well, I'm going to wrap this up. Is there anyone you would like to shout out to?A: Ah, well to the awesome stuck up guys at the Mythic Group, where its cool being better than everyone else, and everyone in Bnet Regulars. Great bunch of guys in there, a lot of friendships, and good times.
