Because 1-50 was an actual ranking system.
Leaderboards are an actual ranking system. If it doesn't directly compare you with the rest of the gaming population, how can it be considered anywhere near a good ranking system?

Why change a game that's been in the market for about 2 and a half years.
Because it's bad???

  • 03.03.2012 12:10 PM PDT

1-50 ranking system would be great and all as long as we still get the armour and helmets and stuff

Because the ranking system in Reach is basically broken. All it does is provide you with aesthetics for your avatar in multiplayer. The only thing it shows you is how long someone's been playing. In 3, you had a better idea of how good your opponents and teammates were because of their ranks. You actually have to win games and play good to rank up. When I hit a new rank in Halo 3 I get really happy because I know I worked hard to get there. When I rank up in Reach, I just shrug it off and look at what new armor I unlocked.

That doesn't make it broken.

The current ranking system works exactly as intended, but like most games these days *cough*Saint's Row: The Third*cough* the depth and complexity from previous games has been dropped in favor of a much more streamlined system, that while perfectly functional and efficient, also manages to be free of almost all challenge (and charm).

We want it so that this crap doesn't happen all the time.

  • 03.03.2012 12:31 PM PDT

spiral out

When you ranked up in H3 it was because you were doing good and improving. In reach, you rank up by playing a lot. I'm pretty sure most normal people get a better sense of satisfaction for knowing that they are good or getting better than knowing that they play a lot.

Edit: Also Reach's rank system promotes kill-whoring. In H3 you had to play to win, not sit outside of objectives with a sniper rifle.

Maybe if the true skill system of Reach actually worked, then these ranks wouldn't be so bad. The 1-50 system put you with similarly skilled people and it made you want to play your best so you could keep your rank or get to a higher one. That alone made the game fun to play. With Reach, I could play a bunch of pros or a bunch of noobs, and I could also lose every single game and still level up. It's stupid.

lolnope.

RJ, for months I have wanted to say this to you, but I have held it in for not wanting to sound like an -blam!-. But this thread was just too much for me this time. RJ, you're -blam!- retarded.

Main GT, banned forever on XBL: DISORDERRRRRRRR
Before game stalking me:: I boosted my Halo 3 EXP after being banned from XBL forever on this account (July 2011). I boosted and AFKed to Inheritor. I never cared about K/D but boosting grifball came with that.

My Youtube

1-50 shows actual skill.

This progressional crap only shows how long you played.

People want to earn their rank through skill, not through XP points.

If you have to use labels like 'Retarded' to describe anyone who disagrees with you, Then your arguement has lost any weight it might of had, and I personally will assume you are just trying to get a rise out of people.

Also to those who think that having a high KDR means you're beast; just the fact that boosters exist is a prime reason that any thumbless noob can achieve it throwing the 'my high KDR validates my opinion" logic out the window.

It's really only an ego-padding thing for the tryhards that think anything lower than General rank in H3 means you are bad.

Nope. SouthPole isn't a person. He's the avatar of the force of tryhards everywhere. He stalks the web looking for retards to set straight. He can not be stopped by mere bans or thread locks for he shall rise anew.

I don't want a number to tell me how proficient I am at a game because I'm afraid of it showing how bad I am.

fix'd

Same goes for the OP.

fear me, for i am pro sauce

halo 4 needs a mix of reach progression ranks and the 1-50

so you can be a nova (EXP/credit rank) skill level 40 (from ranked games)

jerbles are cul

1-50 worked better in a number of ways...most notably, they could actually make ranked OBJECTIVE games, which is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>& gt;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>>>>>>>>>>> in my book.

MLG would be in Arena if the 1-50 system was still employed. Just saying.

It has nothing to do with ego, we want to matched up against evenly skilled opponents, and that doesn't happen in Reach's crappy system.

  • 03.03.2012 5:09 PM PDT

I'm in love with Jesus and proud of it!

Because it doesn't match players according to skill. In rumble pit I've been matched up with players that had a 3.08 KD and get 1st place 99% of their games. I have a 1.08 KD and might win 1/3 of mine in the top 33%.

1-50 ensures that you are playing against people on your skill level most of the time.

The idea of ranking players relative to other players (chained ranks) such as percentiles and division is silly because it makes the highest rank that much more rare and it gives people incentive to cheat and manipulate the network. 1-50 is a good idea because it motivates players to keep playing/improving while reducing need to cheat compared to relative ranking.

Halo 2 ranking system was my favorite. The endless grind to your next rank made losing not an option. It was fun playing against people your actual level, well. When you weren't being modded.

OP: The current ranking system is why I stopped playing for so long, well. That and other things that Reach has to offer. I just got back on Reach the other night and played pretty much all night. I like the changes. But that ranking system gives me no motivation to play nor care about winning or losing.
