Subject: Whats Up With all the Hate?

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

So today like any other, I decided to browse The Community forum. But today I am very disappoint. Mindless forum hating. Two threads on the community, just filled with people mindlessly hating on The Flood. What's up with that? Since I don't wanna point fingers, I'm not going to link the threads or list names. But I'll show the posts.
These posts deal with renaming the Flood:Posted by: REDACTED

This is the only plausible option.
This Thread says that The Flood is immature when Bungie employees post:But, due to the purpose of the Septagon, Employees posted in it a lot more frequently and that lead to us getting used to it.

I don't think the same thing will happen with the Flood.
I think the Flood is learning. What's up with all this hate? Can't we all just get along and you know, be a community?

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Nevar! I'm better than them, and they know it!

Seriously though, I don't personally think this is anything new à la Flood vs Zanzibar.

Ask me a question, and I will most likely respond back with false and illogical information not pertaining to said question.

I like to switch between the Flood and the Community. I don't hate the Flood, at least not to a certain point.

This. Except it's not the forum itself that I hate, but more the people who populate it. While there are some who can put up a good argument, there are others that are just ignorant in what they say.

I don't hate the Flood. I frequent it, in fact. It's actually just a bit of banter to me. It's a notorious forum but it isn't all bad. Just a bit of fun to joke about it, my friend. Of course, there are probably those who genuinely despise it altogether.

Doesn't hate lead to suffering or something?

  • 03.03.2012 1:30 PM PDT

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

There's a lot of dumb people in The Flood. There is also a lot of smart people. There are also a lot of dumb people in The Community forum, as there are also intelligent people. This pattern occurs everywhere, and so people inevitably find reason to butt heads.

My points is, who cares? There's nothing to be done, except to ignore the stupidity or try to help. Pick your battle. But at the end of the day, who and what is stupid is up for you to decide. And if you see hate in the midst of a lot of fun stuff going around, well you can try to help but it will always exist.

Key

It's okay, OP. You can put my name in for the ones that are mine.

Here, I'll respond to one.

But, due to the purpose of the Septagon, Employees posted in it a lot more frequently and that lead to us getting used to it.

I don't think the same thing will happen with the Flood.

^this one is mine. What I was saying is that the Septagon is used for the discussion of the Bungie community itself as well as Bungie as a company. Due to the forum's theme, it is more likely that Bungie employees will post here to discuss Bungie.net, the community, or clear things up about Bungie as a company.

The Flood is a completely off-topic forum that is not directly related to Bungie and so the frequency of Bungie employee posting there is more likely to either stagnate or go down over time (compared to the level it is as right now) than go up.

The frequency going up, and the continued posting of Bungie employees in ANY given forum is the way that forum becomes desensitized to employee-posting.

Because of all that is given above, I don't believe the Flood will get as used to their posting as the Septagon is.

This has nothing to do with the community in the Flood etc.

My second post however,

Wanna/b/s

This is the only plausible option.

That WAS directed at SOME of the Flood regulars, however in a joking manner. I don't actually think of the Flood as an imitation /b/, I just think that some of it's occupants are trying to turn it into that. The overall level of rude responses to any given thread (serious or not) are much more frequent than those in most other forums (Reach excluded).

This is largely due to a minority of the regulars of the Flood who cause this inflated level of rude, inappropriate, or spam posts.

But, nonetheless, it is the current situation of the forum and anyone who says it isn't is not (in my opinion) looking at the right light.

Is that to say there are no problems in the Septagon? -blam!- no. A thousand times -blam!- no. There's excessive sarcasm. There's a large amount of members who fabricate nonexistent elitism and, instead, create an even more annoying sense of "common-ism".

And, on top of that, the Septagon has a great deal of people (myself included at times) who get into arguments they ought not to be in due to an incredible amount of ineptitude they possess on the given subject, and then refuse to admit that they've been outdone and continue to assert their ignorant point (again, myself included at times).

Feel free to argue any points I've said that you think are wrong (directed at everyone, not just the OP). I'm sure there's loads.

Perhaps we could all get along a little better if we didn't worry so much about how other people were behaving, and simply let them figure things out on their own. If they're behaving improperly, they'll come to that realization at some point or another.

I honestly do not believe that a thread regarding their misbehavior is going to convince them to behave any better any faster.

The flood has always been the communities stupid uncle, so like it or not, it's our uncle, and we will hate.

  • 03.03.2012 2:17 PM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

Simple.

They don't like the forum, as well as some of the people that go on it.

Your first post to me, sounded like it was saying that the Flood is incapable of learning how to become mature. I'm sorry that I misinterpreted it. Your second post I still disagree with though. I go to The Flood forum everyday, I don't see anyone wanting it to be just like /b/. In fact, most people don't want it to be like /b/. Every forum has it's problems, but this forum is the only one where I can find people hating on other forums.

I don't think this thread will make people behave more, I'm just bringing it up as a question as too why people do it. And who knows, maybe it'll help some.

If a topic of concern is never brought up, how is it ever supposed to be resolved? It could fix it's self over time, but it would take much longer for it's self to get fixed.

Not everyone in the Flood is stupid, just like how not everyone here is smart.

I did not mean that literally, I meant that the flood is "off-topic" and can be quite chaotic at times. Where as this form is generally slower and more organized, nothing wrong with either, but they have their differences, and of course there will be tension and "hate". As there is with anything.
