The simpler way to make the pelican a feasable multiplayer vehicle.
First topic: Game balance.
the forward mounted weapon would only be a chin gun.
the rear weapon would be a light turret.
The flight characteristics would be make the pelican an effective but vulnerable gunship. This means that though a well trained pilot could provide sufficient cover fire, an enemy armed with a rocket launcher could easily hit critical weak points and either disable the chin gun, or hamper its flight ability with one rocket and then bring the whole craft down with additional rockets. And to be fair to the pilot, there would be flares to divert incoming rockets but only if launched at the first notification of a missle launch.
To make sure the Pelican is not a flying coffin, passengers would have the chance to survive crashes and enemy fire directed at the fuselauge.
Also vehicles could be carried as long as there are no occupants.
Topic two: Controls
due to the nature of halo multiplayer, the controls would have to be very simple and similar to controls of other vehicles. the basic controls would be similar to the banshee except for the addition of the dpad as altitude control. the left thumbstick would control forward back and strafing while the right stick is for aiming and banking left and right. While the pelican is hovering, the right thumbstick will only control the gun elevation and rudder. This would allow the rest of the craft to stay level while the gun is aimed. The right trigger would fire the chin gun and the left would release flares. And lastly the b button would pick up or drop a smaller vehicle.
