Subject: So how were the old days like?

Ask me a question, and I will most likely respond back with false and illogical information not pertaining to said question.

In order to be more acquainted with the community, I'd like to ask a question from the oldest of the old, if they're still around.

How were the forums like back then? Exciting? A great experience? Something to hate?

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Back then? Very ugly; I have horrible memories of the Navbar.

The community hasn't changed much over the years, just a lot more people. In my opinion, it's always been a great and exciting experience, and I guess there's always someone (or something) to hate.

If you've been sent to Banadu and back or witnessed it, you'll know. Also, don't touch the Navbar, you have to kick it like a soccerball! (cause it is one)

This whole "back in my day" in reference to this site reminds me of the whole "90's kid master race" storm.

It was magical and wholesome and full of community wonderfulness. My eyes are welling up with tears as I write this.

I made a thread about this a while ago, just go to the last page of topics and see for yourself, it's changed quite a bit.

Chunky_Lover's Average Joe Interview

Bungie All Star Contest Winner Weeks 6,8 and 12

There was still -blam!- you see now but there was a whole lot less of it.

There was no popularity of 4chan and there was no "trolling" that wasn't even a coined term back then.

Discussion was had and people hated on each other the same. Halo 2 trash talkers and cheaters were the rage and debates on who was a legitimate 40 happened a lot too.

Also floating Nav Bar and many private group memories. I made a lot of friends, technically all my Xbox Live friends who later turned into real life friends through Halo and this site.

Why are you reading my signature? Who actually opens these things and reads them!

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

I first visited this site during the NavBar era. I couldn't figure out how to navigate it and so I didn't stick around for long.

  • 03.03.2012 10:32 PM PDT

There wasn't as many people and the layout was different. Apart from that it's still the same.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

They look kind of rose colored when we put the nostalgia glasses on.

I don't really remember the Truth and Reconciliation days. I think I came here once during the Old Sweetness. I seem to remember being annoyed by all the PERL errors I'd get. The New Hawtness days were okay. The site worked and looked differently, but the user base was pretty much the same.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

I only joined in the glory days of Halo 3, but the site still has changed a fair bit since then. The Halo 3 forum was the place to be, it had some legit discussions, and a lot of complaining like always.

The people are basically the same now, just the appearance of the site is different really. It did seem a lot more active back then, but maybe there was just a high concentration of members in one forum.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Mythics didn't exist back in the old days. The entire concept didn't exist.

Da Husk.

Well, I've been here almost 3 years now. And to be honest, it really wasn't much different. Idiots were still idiots. Trolls were still trolls. Only the topics of discussion changed.

We had an ugly and busted navbar fixed to the bottom of our page.

Those were the good ol' days.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

There was a lot of great members that post very regularly, there was great threads and even great threads.

There was always something interesting or funny happening, unlike now of days.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I think there's really only one big difference between the community 5-7 years ago and the community today. Back then, there were more users who always behaved the same. They made the same sort or style of comments. A certain user would always complain about a specific thing, make jokes about only this. People were known for their behavior.

You don't see that today. What we do see today is users being recognized for their work. Duardo's Member Title thread, jmh's moderator finder, Foman and CI (these were what made them stand out before moderatorship.

I may just be noticing this as I look for members to add into PaS, but I think not. I like the community a lot more today than I did then: I prefer recognizing actions over words.
