I used to be indecisive, but now i'm not sure.

This is a really compelling and interesting theory OP.
Besides that its coherent and actually makes quite allot of sense and like many other fan theories.
Sometimes the lose definitions take quite the stretch, but if this theory is correct the almighty Bungie is more clever than I ever could have guessed.

BTW, how do you know Robt is no longer with Bungie? Back in April, he was still with the group as he was a part of the mail sack. Is it have to do with him taking off his b.net profile?

That's a bummer.

But bloody brilliant OP. I hardly ever save threads, but, thread saved.

This is pretty nuts, but in a great way. In fact, for some reason none of this surprises me as much as it should. Doesn't change the fact that it's absolutely brilliant.

Wow, this was brilliant! Amazing find, I've been following these theories for a while now.

  • 09.17.2012 3:43 PM PDT

I commend the research and piecing together of the theory. I think Bungie's next game will have a brand new story that we cannot predict. I actually would have it no other way. As much fun as it is to look into a storytelling tradition between franchises, I would hate to think that Bungie was somehow trying to pingeonhole a story or themes into a game just to continue a legacy. The fact that this new IP is a brand-new start is really exciting in my opinion.

Although, I wouldn't be surprised if something like this showed up in a minor way or even as an easter egg.

Good job!

I've been in his thread so many times I'm surprised that I have not commented yet.

Amazing work. This is going to be fun to look back on once Destiny finally gets revealed. If everything ends up connecting like you're predicting, then this was huge.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

You know, you could consider "The Head" to be on the same level as Durandal and Cortana in Myth. The Head told Alric how to kill Shiver and the Head told Alric secrets to stop the fallen lords.

Thanks!

While I understand what you mean by not wanting a plot that we can predict, I will say that I haven't really predicted anything.

I'm pointing to a lolhuge story in European mythology. Many contemporary works of fiction borrow from classical stuff, although incredibly loosely. I'm not too concerned about a story getting pigeonholed in for the sake of a few swords, considering how vast Charlemagne's history is. There's a lot of room for creativity.

And I wouldn't say that Halo and Marathon followed the Song of Roland to the letter at all.

Obviously, I have a bias.

The Head told Rabican how to defeat Shiver. But you have a point. He was a bit like an "AI companion" in Myth 1 but in reality he only thought about himself. I guess you could argue he was rampant/crazy as he led Alric into a trap where Deceiver captured him. He basically was a back stabber, as the end he showed his true self by starting a civil war and trying to kill the last few Avatara.

He was definitely more like Durandal than Cortana, but even a lot worse than a rampant Durandal or Tycho.

Honestly cortana 5, your thread here is the most exciting and informative thread on bungie.net...period. What I take the most out of this is a optimistic belief that there will be an AI companion in the next game. First we had Durandal leading the way. Then Cortana was always in our head. Joyeuse will in some way end this AI trilogy. ;)

I thought the head was an interesting antagonist. He seemed to trick Alric fairly easily, probably because the fallen lords were about to take down the Legion.

But yeah, I goofed up my Myth canon a bit. I just know the head gave some info to the avatara and helped them a bit before causing a civil war.

GET IN THE CAR. WE'RE GOING RESEARCHING.

After about five minutes of research, I dug up some basic facts that may be relevant.

~Named after the Queen of Spain's daughter, Princess Asunción, who died young.
~Legend says that a "princess-like maiden" would roam around the area on very certain days of the year. I'm thinking that this may be attributed to Princess Asunción.
~It's a fantastic port, seeing as it's protected from the elements all year-round, and the city is located on a plateau overlooking the city. This is a badass place to be in terms of military defense and trade.
~widely regarded as a very clean, beautiful, and eco-friendly city (and it's got official recognition for this).

Points of Interest:
~Plaza Cuartel is the restored ruins of an old garrison where Japanese soldiers burned 143 American prisoners of war inside a tunnel and stands as a grim reminder of World War II. (Stolen from Wikipedia page)
~Subterranean River: The most famous landmark of Puerto Princesa, this subterranean river is the longest navigable underground river in the world. It features a limestone karst mountain landscape and many stalactites and stalagmites formations.(Stolen from Wikipedia page)

So, I'm not sure what's relevant right now with the city itself. I theorized a while back that there might be volcanoes instead of mountains on the map, but there are no volcanoes on the island of Palawan, so we'd best consider throwing that idea out.

Here's a map of Palawan's mountains. They don't really match up all that well with the destiny map. So what are those things that we thought were mountains?

So, I decided to move on to Queen Isabella II of Spain. Thing is, she was actually the only queen reagent in "modern times" that Spain had.

"She came to the throne as an infant, but her succession was disputed by the Carlists, who refused to recognise a female sovereign, leading to the Carlist Wars. After a troubled reign, she was deposed in the Glorious Revolution of 1868, and formally abdicated in 1870. Her son Alfonso XII became king in 1874."

She lived the rest of her life in exile in Paris.

Her story is incredibly interesting, actually. I would hope that there's a character like her in Destiny. Wikipedia link

I wasn't trying to imply that you should have figured this out yourself. It was more about how he posted about the revelation in this thread and then you replied to another post but not his. I was just making sure you would see it, that's all. Synergy baby, synergy!

Anyways, damn you are good.

For whatever the reason, The Head wanted to destroy The Fallen Lords and the Avatara. He had no sides and wanted pure chaos and destruction, maybe for reasons why he became just a talking head, lol.

Very interesting. I have yet to delve into the more detailed links, but I love everything that has to do with the Marathon universe, and to a slightly lesser extent, the Halo Universe. I will have to read up on this.

One thing though, since it's been alluded to that Bungie will be pursuing a new Marathon game upon success of Destiny (In the Activision contract) wouldn't this storyline more likely be reserved for that game instead, seeing as it's more closely tied to the other games? Your thoughts?
