Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

Why are they so weak and easy to kill compared to Halo 2 and even Reach brutes? It just seems strange how they are big super apes yet a punch from a spartan or ODST will kill them and brutes have pathetic melee damage on easy and normal when they could easily deal a lot more damage. I prefer the melee damage they do on heroic and legendary but they still take way too few melees to kill.

Does anyone have ideas as to why Bungie made them so easy compared to their ferocious Halo 2 counterparts?

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Halo 2 & Reach: Brutes don't have shields. A crap load of health.

Halo 3: Brutes have shields. Medium health.

That explains why they die much easier in Halo 3.

U mean armor.

Brutes had armor in them not shields. Shields recharge, armor doesnt

I agree. The brutes were supposed to be equivalent to the elites of halo 2. Halo 3 was the easiest campaign in my opinion.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

Their armour did have shields, but the armour breaks off once the shields are down.

I dunno. I thought CE was a bit easier on Legendary. Halo 3 was decently challenging, especially the part on Tsavo Highway with all the jump pack brutes. Or that part on the Ark right before the Frigate shows up.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

If it displeases you, turn on Mythic/Thunderstorm/Tilt.

You'd probably shoot back if i wasn't T-bagging your dead body.

Bungie said in one of their Halo 3 interviews that the Halo 2 brutes were uninteresting damage sponges and wanted to re-invent them.

One word. Balance.

Imo, what they did was good but they could have made Brute ranks a bit more distinct. For example,

Brute Ultras berserk with their weapons drawn
Brute Majors keep their distance
Brute Minors always go up to the player
Brute Stalkers move the fastest and never berserk
Jump Pack Brutes never try to melee like CE Goldies that have plasma rifles
Hammer Chieftains follow up with a leap melee immediately after throwing a grenade

This. You'll have to go for an assassination because they can take much more melees.

Half of what I say is true. The other half are also lies.

░▀▀▀ ░▀ ░░░▀ ░▀▀▀ ░░▀ ░░░▀░▀ ░▀ ░▀▀▀ ░

I find them both easy to kill because I always aim for the head. Two for 2. Three for 3. BRs all the way.

To be honest, when I first saw all this in the weekly update I thought 2 things.
#1- there is an actual legendary ending but,
#2- No matter what anyone does,(kill all the bobs, hit all switches etc) that until the "time" mentioned in "There'll be another time..." is reached there won't be a legendary ending.

The weekly update by bungie has slowed my hardcore search for what unlocks the legendary ending.

I find it funny how the powerless armor brutes had armor lock yet no shields for full time use, but the halo 3 brutes had power armor and sucked even more than the reach minors

Yes, yes, H3 Brutes are vastly inferior and H3 is easy mode. I know.

But they have a few things that Reach AI lack:

-fun
-know when their buddies die

In Reach, try assassinating an enemy through or in front another enemy and they'll never notice. In H3, assassinate an enemy through or in front of another enemy and this happens.

Also, Reach lacks:

-large AI collections:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQ8-2EDgPGM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFEhYIsNf_w
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZlY2gcWHyg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_R2s-jkWAA

-AI manipulation:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtCpu9WYZps
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh8lJ91IaRQ

-cutscene manipulation:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVBlBrQhiFY

-megabattles:
H2 - The Arbiter
H3 - The Storm
H1 - 4 levels

-useful friendly AI

I'd much rather have an easy and simple Halo campaign than one where I can't be creative and get slowed down by things like lunge, weak health and shields, and useless friendly AI and have to rely on op weapons or cheap tactics to get a kill.

Fun > Difficulty
Balanced difficulty > false difficulty

Personally, I was appalled when I saw people praise Reach AI. They're just things that could have easily been enabled in CE but Bungie chose not to do so.

Grunts overcharging plasma pistols? Could have been in CE.
Elite regulars throwing plasma grenades? Could have been in CE.
AI shooting weapons longer range? Could have been in CE.

CMT SPV3 easily demonstrates all this. The only thing lacking is faster Elites and them shooting while doing their evasive sidestep maneuvers.

Try them in ODST.

Or better yet, take on 3 chieftains ala FireFight with nothing but the weapons at your feet.

Remember where it all began - Remember, Reach.

-Bungie

I agree- I think a way Bungie could enprove the Brute as well as the Elite is that just give them shields. I dont belilve they need health because they are Ailen and they could be a little different them spartans.

Brutes were tough in Halo 2, both in health and damage they dealt. A berserker Brute was always a threat in Halo 2.

When I first played Halo 3, I was kinda sad that the Brutes were weaker then in Halo 2.

The only tough Brute in Halo 3 are Chieftains :/

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

As long as you have a plasma pistol and a BR. Any enemy in H3 is easy.

That native flood thingymajingy is another story though. Pain in the arse in their ceiling shoot em up form.

Not even. Once you get acquainted with all their moves they're easy to just dodge and assasinate
