For the game designers:
Is it worth distinguishing between a shooter and an RPG anymore? Certainly RPGs can be shooters like Mass Effect or Borderlands, but lately, modern shooters like CoD and Battlefield have incorporated more and more RPG elements above and beyond ranks, medals, and incentives. These days, the gameplay fundamentally changes as you unlock abilities, weapons, and upgrades. Do you feel that is a line that needs to be blurred, or do you feel RPG elements like rank progression and cumulative medal chests should exist separate from actual gameplay?
