Yay yuh!!!!!

I haven't read the fall of reach in a while but in the game I don't see any MAC guns. If this was the UNSC's biggest military base then where are they and how did it fall so fast?

Reach(game) and TFoR(novel) have canon issues. The game stomped on the novel and spat it out and left it in some dark ally-way.

It's your choice on what you think about the canon between the two, but know that the game did the novel a great injustice.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Bungie goofed up with Reach when it comes to making it keep up with the novel.

Although they tried to plug some holes later on, Reach just altered too many basic things.

Who knows, just pretend the game Reach doesn't exist.

Works for me. The damn thing keeps coming back though, like a turd you've tried to unclog form your toilet that just keeps coming back up.

WHY WON'T IT GO DOWN!!??

It was their last time working with Halo. They just wanted to make the game fun.

While I'm sure the book is a very good read, I still adhere to the 'game canon beats book canon' idea, simply for the fact that Bungie made the game, not the book, so the game is the 'true' canon in my opinion.

'Course, we had an engineer magically transform into a phantom in Reach, so there are some bits I would rather forget :)

The Few, The True, The crew

remember ChiFighter= k+eye+fighter

The MAC's i think were taken out by massive waves of tactically inserted grunts i believe, with spartan vainly attempting to protect them while the last real armada of space ships took out a third of the covenant ships in orbit.

Wasn't that big gun that you go into near the end and kill phantoms in a MAC gun?

Now im confused

Yes but Reach is supposed to have orbital mac cannons.

  • 03.05.2012 2:39 PM PDT

And we were in any real position to see the cluster where all the SMACs and the main traffic areas were when? So just because we can't or don't see them they must not be there? *nods* Oh yes, that's very sound logic there. /sarcasm

Heh, you think it feel fast in the game? O_o The book is where it fell so fast, pal. In the book Reach lasted less than 2 hours, in the game it lasts for practically a month.

I've said it plenty times before, but please, everyone, divide the "Bungie" and "Microsoft" canon whenever you enjoy Halo. You're left with problems if you try to combine the two.

I'm pretty sure that's heresy, and that it conflicts with the "Code of Manliness" - page 792, section E subsection D paragraph 3.2. I suggest you relay that statement.

I did some research and Halo: The Fall of Reach was written after the release of Halo CE. It obviously was a prequel to Halo CE but did not bear with it authenticity as to what actually happened before the events of Halo CE.

Bungie was not obligated to follow the story set by Eric Nylund. Like most novels written after games and movies, the lorists who write them write use assumptions to give meat to their stories and unsurprisingly sometimes the stories don't match up exactly. The same is true vice versa especially. You could say that Halo: The fall of Reach was a little before it's time.

If anyone knows better than this please post. I, in now way, dislike being better informed in an appropriate manner.

It wasn't a MAC Gun as such, it was a Mass Driver. It used the same technology as A MAC Gun but was primarily used for transporting slugs of metal about Reach's solar system for use in off planet ship building, etc. It served the purpose of a MAC Gun when Noble Six was using it, but specifically it wasn't one.

The MAC Gun's you are talking about are in orbit around Reach. If you were to see them you'd only see them in the mission "Long Night of Solace" and by then they may have well been destroyed. Although as others said the game and the book don't tell the same story even though both are supposedly cannon.

They were at the other side of the planet with the majority of the fleet.

Yeah, but wasn't the majority of the fleet supposed to be fighting the Covenant Armada that, in the game, only shows up after the first Cruiser is destroyed.

Let's just say the game and the book punch holes into eachothers stories and leave it at that.

They explained that only the forces stationed at that side of the planet knew about the invasion, the rest (The majority of the fleet and the SMACS at the other side of the planet) were held up because of the incident with the relay. One guy even mentions seeing a flash of light flare up over New Alexandria (due to the Super Carrier being ripped in two).

ONI kept them at that side with the idea that the relay was still down long after the Long Night of Solace had been destroyed.

I know what a mass driver and a MAC gun are, but there are two abbreviation that I don't know which one is right.

  • 03.06.2012 1:22 PM PDT

Magnetic, not mass.

I still believe there are ways for Halo: The Fall of Reach and Halo Reach to both be canon. People just refuse to believe it could be possible because it's too much for their minds to handle.

MAC gun? Just say MAC, dude. MAC stands for Magnetic Accelerator Cannon, so saying MAC gun is saying Magnetic Accelerator Cannon gun, which while generating a really awesome mental picture, is not proper terminology. I'm just glad nobody is saying MAC Cannon anymore.

OT: I figure given as how you were only on one side of the planet, that the Supercarrier had gone and merc'd the ODPs on that side already, because after all the 27km warship had the advantage and surprise.
