Interesting conclussions regarding the slipspace jump, but alas that is Cortana's voice in the trailer. People are desperately trying to fit in Halo's "extended universe" characters into the games' plot lines... and ultimately (I expect) they'll be disappointed.

I'm not sure where I saw it, maybe it was here, on Bungie.Net, but I saw some text saying that true fans may recognize the artifact,

That was Frankie, he said that in the "Halo 3 Announced" top story. The artifact he is talking about is the Ark, not the crystal. There were pictures or mock ups of what the Ark looked like in the LE Halo 2 case. So that is what he means by true fans, the ones who coughed up the extra money for the LE, or halo crazed fans like myself saw the drawings online.

i read your analysis and im a pretty avid follower of the halo plotline, but i believe that the 'artifact' is the infamous "ARC"

The prophet of regret orginally went to earth to find the whereabouts of the Arc, which was New Mombassa. he didnt count on finding humans there, etc you know the rest. Prophet of Truth is going to the arc to activate the halos for reasons we dont know. Does Truth know the 'truth' about halo? personally, i believe so. Guilty sparks and Penitent Tangent keep referring to the humans as "reclaimers," which lead me to believe that the forerunner were humans of some form and the prophets, lead by the heirarchs dont want anyone to know and plan on eradicating all life and being the dominant (or only) life form this half of the universe.

Nice theory. Not quite sure I'm believing it all though.

Maybe it's like a time jump. Halo 3 must be conceintrating on the events before the first halo game. Back when there was alot more Spartans.

Halo 3: Collapse
Chapter 20, Revelations, is up (update 11-14-10)
The Mirratord

It's "Ark," not "Arc." That just drives me nuts.

In addition, what's to say that Bungie hasn't changed their mind? I mean, on that same picture the Arbiter was being called the "Dervish."

I think it's a slipspace thruster myself. I think the ark is on Earth, but that that object isn't it.

interesting claim but all the pieces are in place for that object to be the ark.....with the prophet of regret going there and halo 2 ending with the revelation that the ark is on earth.....

like the mod just said, define a "true" fan of halo. Bungie considers all its fans equal. Probably.

its like reading The Hobbit before you read LOTR, you dont have to, and the plot isnt integral to what happens in LOTR, its just a bit of wider reading around the topic and people find it interesting to delve deeper into the universe.

Isnt the Ark the trigger for all the halos?

yeah, its not only the trigger for it all, but its also the only place in the galaxy that's safe from halo's destructiveness......which is why i believe prophet of truth is so bent on getting there so he and the prophet 'race' will be teh only beings this side of the universe

well cortana says.."this is the way the world ends".. and how does the world end? isnt the ark when activated supposed to destroy everything but supposedley the ark. so if that is the ark... it shouldnt be the way the world ends.

so, yeah its not tha ark

I thought the Halo 3 plot was obvious. You know, Master Chief has to save earth from the Covenant invasion, stop the activation of the Ark/Halos, save/destroy Cortana/Gravemind, kill the Prophet of Truth, kill/ally with the Arbiter.

i like your thinkin Wii. i dont think bungie wants the plot to be obscure. as interesting as this slipspace rupture is, ppl who dont read the books are gonna be confused as hell. work with me here people. they introduced the ARK at the end of halo 2. why would all of a sudden drop this slipspace idea out of nowhere and leave the ark out? the site in the trailer is the ark. it only makes the most sense.
