- The Bloodied Wolf

Perhaps after the Human-Covenant war the miscellaneous Human factions started waging war against the CAAA, UNSC, and Earth all over again? Therefore, "Blue" Spartans could be UNSC and "Red" Spartans some a different faction, especially since the Spartan IV programme should be cheap enough for anyone to afford. I would think of it as an all-free Spartan deterrent race.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

My theory is that it's just a training exercise.

Wheres Meh Sniper?

Youtube page

I am excited to find out, I figured a training exercise, but I am certain there will be blood. Soo I'm not sure how serious the UNSC 's training is..

Seriously, stop saying it's just a training exercise. There is no way Spartans would really be killing each other just for training.

If you look at Spartan IVs they almost look... sporty... I know this is unlikely, but could you imagine that maybe controlled fighting has become a sport? Think Unreal Tournament in how they make a sport called "Deathmatch" where combatants fight in a series of arena matches in teams.

That makes it easy for developers to make multiplayer maps that are perfect arenas due to them being built for that very purpose. That's why so many Halo maps already are "Spartan training facilities".

Unless they developed technology where you don't necessarily "Die" during these matches. Where you simply respawn after "death". Just like Unreal Tournament.

We’re flawed because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had.

Training Sim, is that really so hard to understand?
Besides why the hell would ONI waste time and money on training/outfitting these Spartan only to have them fight to the death?
Sense it makes none.

The virtual training excersive theory makes an awful lot of sense. It'd also explain the whole re-spawning thing.

But, the thing is, we don't really need a backstory for multiplayer, it's multiplayer, after all. Although, I supposed it's just a nice little bonus.

They might have not even went at this just to make sense of multiplayer. They might have already had something cooking in the canon that had absolutely nothing to do with multiplayer, but would make complete sense to apply to the multiplayer.

One theory is that certain parts of the UNSC have gone into separate factions that are fighting each other. Spartan against spartan. Would be insane if you'd have to fight Spartan IVs during the Campaign.

So, does that mean that spartans like Master Chief were winning sims 25-0 and Noble Team members were taking 2nd and 3rd? Perhaps gettin in some 23-2, etc?

  • 03.07.2012 1:16 PM PDT

Yay yuh!!!!!

probably training or too see who is better. Honestly why do they need a reason?

  • 03.07.2012 1:20 PM PDT

I don't think it is survival of the fittest ordeal because Spartans are not the cheapest soldiers to make. I'm not sure if they found a cost efficient way to make them, but my guess is that it is some virtual simulation thing where they fight each other.

My question to nobody in particular, did there even need to be a reason for MP teams? Red and Blue are just colours to help distinguish friendlys from enemies. Simple as. If they are going to try have a "compelling" reason i.e make it more plausible, then they should first address a glaringly obvious problem: The Spartans are wearing red and blue armour! Realistically the UNSC wouldn't use striking red and blue armour just the same as no military today would. Silly 343.

Scenario matches in a competative training simulation type. SPARTANs are very motivated to be the best. Why not have competitions amongst the squads to see which one is the best? "Red Team" wears red armor, "Blue Team" wears blue armor, and so on. You could even have a feature on the website tracking the wins, losses, kills, deaths, ect.. of the different teams. It could rate the teams online and have them on a leaderboard of sorts to see which team is currently on the top.

Of course the player is still randomly assigned to one of the teams each game.

I'm going to assume TTR. Plastic polymer bullets that have a proximity fuse that dissolves the case at 10 centimeters from any solid object. It releases a red paint that is now not only moving at a high velocity, but is a powerful anesthetic and reacts with synthetic fibers in specially designed training gear in a way that amost immediatly hardens, resembling actual combat wounds.

It seems to be the most common training round in the UNSC, making an appearance in "Contact Harvest", "Dirt" and the Halo Graphic Novel ( "Armor Testing", ODSTs where fireing paint-bullet guns). I'm assuming it was also used in the S-II "cave training" and the S-III training.

It would make sense in the context of the multiplayer. The red TTR paint could easily explain why we still see red splatter coming from "bullet" impacts.

Factions have become a popular explanation but yours is nicely detailed.

That's a pretty unique explanation. That would make sense as to why maps are more arena-like too.

Yeah people seem to like the training exercise explanation.

There really is no need for a multiplayer reason but I guess 343 just thought is was something to add to the game.

Like another person mentioned (I think), if they already had something developing in canon, and it just so happens seems to fit perfectly as a multiplayer explanation, then why not use it?

I'm guessing its there for the same reason its in all the other halo games, because people enjoy it. It doesn't need to have any canonical value.
