Subject: The "Unusually Formidable" AI Construct

People with poor depth perception tend to go the extra mile.

Uniquely Hard Sniper Map

This hasn't even been mentioned yet that i know of. Maybe it's been forgotten. Remember when fighting through High Charity and Cortana says there's an "unusually formidable" AI construct fighting back? What could this AI be? I think it'll have an important role in Halo 3, but i don't know what. Your thoughts...

Maybe it was Gravemind.... taking over the construct like he did Cortona now...

I'm pretty sure it was either a Covenant AI, or the Gravemind was interferring somehow. That one kind of blew over me.. That does leave a lot of question.

Could it maybe be a Forerunner construct that the Covenant were using. After all, they did have a Forerunner ship...

gravemind does have control of a moniter so maybe he could be using it to attack .

If the construct on High Charity was the "original" Covenant AI (the one that was used to make copies for other ships like the Ascendant Justice) then it would most likely be fairly powerful. If you notice in the books, Cortana recognizes parts of the Ascendant Justice's AI's code, which could mean that the Covenant AI is an altered human AI, possible even an altered copy of Cortana herself (which would explain the similarities). Since the copying program creates errors, it wouldn't be a fully functional version of Cortana, but it could still pose a problem for her depending on how many errors it had, and how much it had been altered.

It's Durandal. Obviously.

Well, it is an AI construct on the Forerunner ship that is preventing the ship from being delayed in launch. That is what she says. This automatically rules out the Gravemind, since he is there after the Forerunner ship detaches (see final video after credits). Plus, the Gravemind wouldn't want to assist Truth: he supposedly has the icon, and the Gravemind doesn't want any part of Halo activated.

Cortana is the one who is delaying the launch of the Forerunner ship, not the AI on High Charity. The other AI is trying to stop her from messing with High Charity's systems.

Just a small correction: Truth doesn't have the sacred Icon. that's the key for Halo. Miranda Keys has it along with the Arbiter and Sargent Johnson after killing Tartarus.

I don't think that it is the Gravemind. He would want the Forerunner ship to stay on High Charity.

It's forerunner because:

(I've said this before) All races start at the cavemanish stage, the prophets' race finds a forerunner stone with writing on it. How do they know what it says? They cannot find out about HALOs and such if they just find a weird rock.

So, Forerunners (or a construct) must have surrvived to translate. And trick the covi into forming a cult for a "great journey".

Those tentacles are WAYYY too fat to be gravemind's. And you see him at the last cut-scene. He's still on high charity.

Tell me you aren't thinking he's referring to the trailer right? I honestly dont have any idea what room he's talking about, but I certainly dont think it's the trailer.

No, it's the second level on high-charity when the flood attack. You enter two rooms with big windows and the typical plant/rock environment.

Whatever it is, it's stronger than Cortana. If it were an AI like the Covenant AI from First Strike, she could've kept the ship there for as long as she wanted. And remember that in Halo:CE, 343 GS stopped Cortana's self-destruction of the Pillar of Autumn, and she wasn't able to restart it. So Forerunner AIs are very powerful.

  • 05.24.2006 7:14 AM PDT

First, I really don't think it was the gravemind. He really has no reason to aid the Prophets, since allowing them to get to the arch would only mean his own starvation. That kinda rules that out. But I also don't really believe it was a Forerunner sentient, since the forerunner sentient really wouldn't have any legit reason to aid the Prophets either, except perhaps if it knew the Prophets were attempting to activate the Halos... Wait a minute, that actually COULD be the case. I should really think these things out all the way before I type them.

  • 05.24.2006 7:23 AM PDT

Well if there is Guilty Spark and also that other one that was red I think than maybe the Covenant picked up one and asked it for assistance in preventing the MC and Cortana from stopping them from activating the rings.

It isn't like Guilty Spark wasn't excited to do it in the first place.

Also Guilty Spark was with Johnson and Keyes at the end right so it has to be that Red Guilty Spark. I can't remember it's name but all Halos would appear to have one each.

  • 05.24.2006 7:38 AM PDT

Well, i don't like posting so soon in the same thread, but I have to kill down the red Guilty Spark theory. The Guilty Sparks, it would seem, don't really help out anybody, they just seem to provide a bunch of information. Remember when The Chief was about to activate the first Halo and Cortona figured out what it really was and stopped him? Seems like Guilty Spark could have stopped her under your theory, but he didn't. So I don't really think it was the red Guilty Spark.

Halo 3: Collapse
Chapter 20, Revelations, is up (update 11-14-10)
The Mirratord

Ω

I don't know if this was in the Ackerson theory, but is it possible that the AI is Solipsil? In the Conversations of the Universe booklet, Solipsil was an ONI loan AI that was talking with Cortana about the differences between an AI and a Spartan. It was brought up that Cortana's loyalty to the human race was programmed in, but left open that Solipsil's might not. Could the AI have been acquired by, or given to, the Covenant?

somebodies been watching family guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh yeah formidable construct was most likely gravemind, if not there was something in the 3rd book "first strike" about a copy of cortana? not sure, ages since i read it, i know there was some sort of AI on the ship they captured and i swear it was like a fragment or copy of cortana, maybe not

oh yeah, i seriously doubt its a forerunner AI, reasons? well so far ive only seen the covenant manipulate forerunner tech in the form of physical properties, ie the forerunner ship in high charity, and they can't manipulate 343 guilty spark, im sure if they could they woukd have relised that halo would kill them and is not some mythical religious icon that would send them on a great journey, or maybe they think that a huge destructive force is a great journey, who knows?
