Subject: The "Unusually Formidable" AI Construct

People with poor depth perception tend to go the extra mile.

Uniquely Hard Sniper Map

After playing through High Charity, where this AI is mentioned, this is what Cortana says:

"I'll try to stall the launch sequence, but there's something inside the ship, something fighting back. For a Covenant construct it's unusually formidable."

So, even though Gravemind now controls High Charity, we know he doesn't control this AI because it was on the Forerunner ship, which left.

Also, Cortana says "Covenant construct". Does she say this because she knows the Covenant created this AI, or does she call it "Covenant" because they are using it? If they didn't create it, then it must be Forerunner, or possibly stolen from Humanity.

this is my theory---
its probable rubbish but...
ok... the beggining---
the forerunners are acctually previous spartans, much the same as our good old friend the masterchief. in a matrix style twist, the end of the universe is nigh, but the gravemind (who is acctually God) saves the masterchief from destruction. He takes masterchief to a divine place where other spartans are waiting, all from previous universes (you see, time is a funny concept, invented by humans... in reality time does not exist at all, existance runs on one large cycle) in the cycle. gravemind tells them that in order to save the universe, blah blah blah, they will need to band together and continue with the great jouney, because this truthfully is the only way to save the universe. The other spartans are forerunners. The forerunners (this now includes you) have to stop the end of the universe in any way possible. this means planting messages, they knew that the great jouney would continue but masterchief -non-forerunner- in the big ship must return to earth, even if it did mean masterchief going with it. you basicly go back in time. the gravemind also provides you with holy weaponry. it does rock but it has only limited ammo, after that, you must rely on what you find. you create the "covenant construct" to un-delay the launch sequence to get the prophet to earth to continue the great journey. also in a weird plot twist, you must kill yourself in the very end you die but the universe is saved!!
! rock on

This hasn't even been mentioned yet that i know of. Maybe it's been forgotten. Remember when fighting through High Charity and Cortana says there's an "unusually formidable" AI construct fighting back? What could this AI be? I think it'll have an important role in Halo 3, but i don't know what. Your thoughts...

It was a Covenant AI, they had them in the books.

umm, yeah...i totally don't understand that theory. But back on track, all i wanted to know was, since no detail is too small for Bungie, will this AI, that seems to be overlooked, be important in Halo 3; i suppose we won't acctually know till H3, but logical theories are interesting. I'm just wondering...

"Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future."- John F. Kennedy

They folded out of the system immediately
after I received the message, without so
much as a "Thanks for saving us from
becoming plasma on Tau Ceti, Durandal".

I'm pretty certain that Cortana would be albe to tell the difference between Gravemind (if he can acess systems like that), a Covenant AI, and a Forerunner AI.

Maybe there is a monitor onboard the forerunner ship? It could be keeping her out, and maybe have told the prophets and brutes where to find the ARK.

I don't think so. Only two Halos have been found so far, and i assume there's only one monitor per ring. The monitor of the first halo encountered (Guilty Spark) is with Johnson and the Arbiter; the second monitor is with Gravemind. That doesn't leave a monitor for the Prophets and Brutes.
