I have a better idea, master chief was sucked into a wormhole after the legendary ending of halo three, he is shot out in the time of the forerunners, they are on their fourth generation of Spartans, this is where the humans found the technology for their Spartans. After defeating the flood and changing history master chief wakes up to find he was dreaming the whole time.

Tell me your joking? That's the worst idea for a story since the giant hole with Sgt. Johnson between Halo: CE and Halo 2. Not to be a jerk or anything ,but that would bury 343i and the game.

It was clear that they are only in MP.

While it's certainly a possibility the IVs will only be featured in MP, where has it been outright stated (or where is there strong evidence)that IVs would be MP only to that point that it makes it "clear"?

They have almost certainly been confrimed, but it isn't for sure.

Okay, so what evidence leads to the conclusion that it's "almost certainly been confirmed"?

Heck, that statement in its entirety leads to nowhere regardless. 'Almost certainly confirmed, but it isn't for sure'? Both ends negate each other...

Go check the xbox bulletin it leads us to a good chunk of evidence that tell us that they are going to somehow tie into the Halo 4 storyline.

I have read it, and again I'm asking for specific evidence that points to the Spartan IVs being multiplayer only as Grey stated earlier.

Saying that they're "going to somehow tie into the Halo 4 storyline" because the bulletin says so lends zero weight to them being multiplayer exclusive or not.

Untrue. It lends about 5 pounds.

Yes that was a joke, on a serious note, it seems to me that adding them to the multiplayer directly connects with having them in the game,it would make very little sense to set the multiplayer in a different timeline than the game.

I think they'll fit in fine... Hopefully 343 come up with something logical, I trust they will. To be honest, I'm not going to rate Spartan IV's in relation to where I think they stand against the other Spartans until I play Halo 4.

Currently, my views are:
Spartan II > Spartan III > Spartan I/Orion Project
(Am I implying that the members of Noble team were better than Sgtmj. Johnson? No.. Just that Spartan III's in general are better than Spartan I's)

They'll eventually have a role in the games, although they'll be likely to be involved in the background of the events.

Frankie says "In MP you play as a spartan IV" then brings up the comparasion between the two models. He then speaks about them in MP, saying there is a story reason for why blues fight reds (I think that as a RvB referance). He then says that the story and MP are two separate experainces.

There is already enough ifnormation to know they would be in campagin and we know that this is one of the Glasslands Tidbits they were talking about months ago.

I know they're featured in multiplayer...The vid doc made that perfectly clear, and thus I do not need to have that cited at all...

You had originally said that it was clear thus far that the S-IVs would have an MP-only presence. That's what I've quoted you for earlier, and that's what I'm questioning in the first place as to where you got that idea.

Now you're going back on what you've said by now mentioning that it's clear they'd have a role in campaign as well.

As someone else said, I hope that they're antagonist just for the sole purpose of pummeling them and hearing them go "UHAAG!"

I hope that they're fleshed out canonically, which I am certain they will be. Having them introduced as nothing more than a casual "name drop," (paraphrasing,) started them off on the wrong foot, I feel.

We’re flawed because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had.

Um they'v been around before the ViDoc, it's called Glasslands.
And they're basically all the remaining SII and SIII, plus solders who voluntarily/are capable of joining the project, so add ODST's joining the banner of the SVI project.

Yes, I'm well aware. Glasslands was the aforementioned "paraphrased namedrop."

There are so many typos in that post that i don't even know what to make of it.

I meant to say that they are MP only and this is one of the tidbits from Glasslands incorporated into halo 4.

How do we know they are multiplayer only if we've only been told of their existence and use in multiplayer? I mean, it's a very safe bet that they're in multiplayer - it could even be safely argued that it is an outright certainty - but the only thing we know for certain of the campaign is that it has relevance to Forerunners, the UNSC makes some form of appearance, there are updated and more advanced Warthogs and Battle Rifles, and the Chief somehow gets a hold of a new suit of armor.

There's really nothing blatantly excluding the Spartan IV's from the campaign storyline, so we shouldn't rule that out until we know for certain.

chief is still wearing mark VI, frankie even brought that up in the video and then stated MP and SP are separate experiences.

  • 03.12.2012 9:16 AM PDT

Since we know that there are Spartan fours now, I kinda wish that the chief's armor wasn't changed as much as it was. He looks too much like the spartan fours when he's a spartan two. I know Cortana's beed tweaking his armor, but I want that boundary between spartan four and two to be clearly visible.

Honestly, if they have a good excuse as to why the Spartan IV's are there, I am totally ok with it, but if the introduction to the Spartan IV's suck, I'ma be pissed....

I have a pole if anyone wants to use it so people can get a better view of what other people's view on the Spartan IV's are.

Was this in a separate video or interview? The First Look video mentioned nothing of the sort, only showed graphical comparisons of Halo 3 and Halo 4. To me, right now there are enough technical and aesthetically differences with the Mjolnir suit in Halo 3 and 4 respectively to assume that it is, in fact, a different suit. It's much more than changing the gloves and small aesthetic features of the Mjolnir Mk VI from Halo 2 to Halo 3.

Agreed, the suit that John is wearing, is way too different from Halo 3's suit to still be Mk VI.
(Just kinda realized we are talking about a Spartan II in a Spartan IV thread....hmm...)
