just because theres a whole lot of ships floating about the ark/giant frying pan
doesn't mean that earth is lost for the human
and just because cortana says this is how the world ends doesn't mean everything is going to die or blow up

The Info Page:
The Covenant occupation of Earth has uncovered a massive and ancient object beneath the African sands - an object who's secrets have yet to be revealed. Earth's forces are battered and beaten.

I think that is evidence enough that Earth has been pwnt.

it could just be the end of the Earth, possibly suffering the same sort of fate as Reach, that is if the Chief executes the same sort of stategy as on the first halo (though he would need a bigger bang for an entire planet)

*nods alot* I think that the game should have a "happy ending" with the earth surviving, but if it should exploderize... definantly a big bang sequence... for sure!

Sega Mega Drive, Golden Axe and Sonic all day!

big covenant ships shot big covenant plasma balls at every single square inch of Reach apart from the bit they needed.

and the master cheif ended up falling out of orbit, landing on the planet and surviving. didnt really like that bit.

He means this: When the Covenant attacked and annihilated Reach they Glassed the WHOLE planet except for one area. The mountain fortress that ONI controlled which harbored a Forerunner artifact.*

earth does not looked like its been burnt to a cinder, there are smoke clouds, but the sky isnt blacked out, nor do i see any ash falling from the sky or covering the ground. There are city sky scapers viasble in the background. There are most definately still humans left. Otherwise what is the point of the chief saving the world

dude thank you! I'm re-reading the halo books, and I completely forgot about that part of reach. SWEET!

Well:

earth does not looked like its been burnt to a cinder, there are smoke clouds, but the sky isnt blacked out, nor do i see any ash falling from the sky or covering the ground.

1) If you Glassed a whole planet except for one area you wouldn't see smoke in the area that they DIDN'T GLASS.

2) All we see of Earth is New Mombassa.... Or at-least what used to be it.

3) And what we can see is around the Artifact... SO they wouldn't glass this area.

there are city sky scapers viasble in the background. There are most definately still humans left.

1) Yes, there are humans left.... No fun without Marine cannon fodder, eh???

2) But they're only alive because they didn't glass this part of Earth because of the Artifact. Or they were part of the space battle.

3) The sky scrapers in the background are what is left of New/Old Mombassa after the Prophet of Regret "bugged out" inside the city. The resulting slip-space hole tore straight through the city leaving only dust behind.

Otherwise what is the point of the chief saving the world

1) ..... Uh, "The Great Journey" I don't think he wants to die.......

I tend to agree. Earth is totally screwed. Shame to think about all that death and destruction to so many innocent people. At least we can say this; the Earth defence stations and the Fleet gave it their best shot. No doubt the Marines and the rest of the Earth forces gave it their best shot too, but we're talking about a considerable disadvantage when it comes to the size of the Covenant Invasion force, their technology, reinforcements, weapons, brutality, etc, etc.

Man that's kind of upsetting. Don't worry folks the Chief will have a plan.

Perhaps there is a rebel style UNSCDF base somewhere on Earth but as we all know and (in some cases are trying to deny) Mankind is essentially in tatters..Personally I'd like to think of Foehammer's bloke rag-tagging it around in a Heavy Pelican all over one of the Continents..picking lost souls up and taking the fight right back at the Covies Hit n Run style....yeeeeeha!! Tally ho..

I wonder if the Covenant have actually taken over the earth, that is, will they be ruling over earth's cities and citizens as f.e the Combine do in HL2? Or have humans taken refuge elsewhere? Only way to find out is to play the game I guess...
