Last HALO game remember so they may make a prequel but it won be HALO 4. I dont think Cheif will die. BUt maybe we can see what hes really like underneath that mask of his. Would be a nice ending.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Even though I'm not sure I don't think he will die because people have an emotional attachment to him as a charcter. For 4+ years people have fought with the Master Chief, and they have layed waste to legions of enemies. People relate to him now because in a way you are him when you play the game. That said to have him die even in a heroic way at the end of Halo 3 would be huge downer and not (in my mind) an ideal way to end the series. The MC is an iconic character that means as much to Microsoft as Sonic did to Sega or Mario does to Nintendo. You just can't get rid of him.

My theory is that Bungie is setting up a situation where Cortana will be the one to take one for the team. They purposely made her have less of a role and less likable in Halo 2 to help drive a wedge between the player and her character thus making her death less traumatic. As for the MC. Earth is going to need to rebuild and that includes the millitary. I see the MC becoming a trainer much in the same fashion Master Chief Medez was to him, and he'll likely be training the soldiers we'll be using in future Halo games. Spartan III's perhaps? This is the ideal way to handle this situation because it does two things at once. It ends the MC's role as the lead character aswell as ends his story path, but it will also allow us to play as characters that the MC trained thus spiritually allowing us to continue playing as him. We will also be content in the knowledge that the MC is still alive and training new Spartans.

Well, I'll throw in my two cents here... even if it's not worth that much.

Does anyone remember Boromir dying in "The Fellowship of the Ring"? The dude was a total loser, but when he went down in that blaze of glory... WOW! I mean, what a powerful scene! If you take the Master Chief and have him, who is not a loser, go down in that same sort of blaze of glory... then, man! How powerful a part of the Halo story that would be!

Whatever... there's my two cents.

I hope the Chief dies. Then we'll see if the 360/Microsoft can survive without it's beloved franchise character/game.

He probably won't die because he IS everything Xbox. The Chief sells games and consoles so the chances of him dying are slim to none. Me thinks Bungie/Microsoft will call upon the Chief again sometime in 2009 for an all new game without Halos or Covenants.

Wii sucks and is the most overrated video game ever...

A loud metallic noise is heard against the hull of the ship.

JOHNSON: Sound familiar?

KEYES: (smiling) Like a brick.

JOHNSON: (on the radio) Chief, get in here. It's over.

............................................................. .........

MASTER CHIEF: Cortana was on the ring. But there was something else, something wrong with her.

JOHNSON: I'm sure they can replicate her,Chief.

MASTER CHIEF: You're wrong about what you said.

JOHNSON: What's that?

MASTER CHIEF: It's not over.

If he does die then the books better carry on the series.

I think if he dies Humanity is -blam!- since the Covenant only really fear him.

Dr.Dark,
Those are some good points, I hate to see cortana have to die almost as much. I like to hear her voice. I still say that MC goes down kind of like in the movie Armageddon, saving all that we know. What a great ending to a great game and story that would be. Maybe a halo pre 1,2 & 3 like Star Wars could be done as mention in some other post. After all, a war hero should die in the field of battle saving what he believes in. Armageddon the movie had a great ending with the main guy going down saving the world.
Later,
Brad

May i remind you that Xbox Live was 360's killer App, not Halo.

I'm sorry but XBL doesn't sell 360s. Games with XBL support sell 360s AND XBL. The 360 won't have a killer app until Gears of War comes out in October.

I dunno personaly i think he will die and it will be the best and last of the series, bungie should continue making games based on the halo universe though!

Halo 3 will be the last Halo just like Bill Gates hates money and shareholders of Microsoft are really not all that interested in the bottom line.

Honestly, I don't see how anyone can really believe this is the last Halo game. Bungie is owned by Microsoft and Microsoft is owned by shareholders which are predominately composed of institutional investors. Do you REALLY think that all of those people would be pleased if Bungie just all of a sudden decided to end a brand that has generated more than a billion dollars in revenue through direct sales and associated tie-ins and indirect console and accessory sales?

NOT...A...FRICKIN...CHANCE

That would make about as much sense as Microsoft deciding to stop making new versions of their incredibly popular Windows operating system because "Well...we had a good run!"

The Halo series will end with Halo 3 and it should. Playing Halo 4 with a similar story line about a ring world and the Flood etc would be so boring and predictable; same enemies, characters, locations, etc. Put Master Chief in another war with another race or aliens, humans, machines, etc. The Halo story is good but seriously, only SquareEnix can milk a franchise for all it's worth in 13 incarnations.

The funny thing is that you people expect Halo 3 to wrap up all loose ends, have an awesome multiplayer and be the game of the decade! Halo 3 will not tie up all loose ends. It is pretty funny reading all your post and seeing how imature all of you are. I mean its like your all 12 year old kids who are obsessed with Halo but have no idea what its about. Halo 3 has to follow the story and needs to make sense. You cant just say that " the game is gonna start on a ship and Master Chief will have a nuke, kill all the flood and solve the problem." The game is too big to be wrapped up in a trilogy. If you "12" year olds are fans and know what is going on in the "Halo World" then you would not be so blind to the point that there WILL be a Halo 4. If BUNGIE actually does wrap it all up in Halo 3 then I will be amazed. I will laugh at every single person on Bungie.net and everyone on Halo 2 when I AM RIGHT when the game comes out. Look at my recent post in this topic and actually think instead of posting like imature 12 year old boys, what i posted before was not random and I posted it for a reason (to open your eyes to the TRUTH).

Even though I take a great deal of offense in being called a "12 year old little boy" you pompous arrogant so and so... I do agree that Halo is to big, (story wise) to lucrative, (money making wise) and to important to Microsoft (marketing wise) to simply be wrapped up in a pretty 3 game package, have everything explained away during an end-game cutscene, and then call it a day. This is the end of this story arch perhaps, but it does not mean it is the end of the story. Some sort of Halo or game set in the Halo universe will come out at some point down the road. I guarantee it.

P.S. Pull your head out of your behind next time you speak. It's easier to understand you that way.

I read that, and it really goes against everything we've heard and seen. Also, there most recent version has a couple more pages before the credits roll. I highly doubt it's real.
