I'm playing Halo on a Mac, and I noticed that when I activate the brakes of a warthog, the red lights on the back of the vehicle don't lit. Of course, they do in the PC version of the game.

Just curious: do anyone know if there are other and perhaps less marginal differencies between the Mac version and the PC version of Halo?

And by the way, am I the only one using Halo on a Mac, here?

I know! They're useless! I think Space bar is an E-brake, but it doesn't do squat.

I use hog brakes occasionally when trying to stop on a steep slope, or occasionally to flash at teammates to make them get on.

Incidentally, for the HUD, does the shield bar stay blue constantly, or does it change to white? I know the Xbox shield bar changes to white when it's hit.

hi! welcome to the maw, fellow mac gamer!!

(one of us! one of us! one of us!)

yeah, it's too bad about the brake lights. for some reason, the brake lights are there in the halo mac demo. it's the little effects in halo that make it such a great game, too bad they all aren't in there in the mac version.

here's some other differences: on the mac version, the lights on the end of the plasma rifle and plasma pistol don't glow. in multiplayer, the text that tells who killed who, which team has the oddball/flag is blue in the mac version, instead of white in the pc version. it's also in a different location: the mac text is in the top left, the pc text is in the middle left. also, in the mac version, you can't view or type text when the "post game carnage report" screen is up. bummer.

don't worry, there are a few mac gamers here in the maw.

i only use brakes (spacebars) for emergency stops, tight turns, and since it doesnt COMPLETELY stop the warthog when pushed, i use it to make slow and easy drift turns with the hog. its pretty useful if you learn how to use the brakes.

If you know how to use it properly the E-brake is practically one of the best tools at a Warthog driver's disposal. Useful for those pesky people you try and run over (slide into them using the E-brake) or those tight turns you want to navigate without flipping the hog, or even dodging rocket fire, or an enemy hog. No wonder I love Race so much...

Glad to see there are some fellow Mac users in this forum! I was beginning to think that I'm the only one here - or something :-)

By the way, more importantly we are all fellow Halo players here (which ultimately means: trusty friends when in the same team and merciless enemies when in opposed teams;-) so my salute goes also to all the attendants of this forum, regardless of the computer platform.

P.S. I just saw the GameRanger thing. I'm going to give it a try it this night :->

My screen name is "robegian" (sometimes "robegian-IT", which is a reminescence of my on-line flights with F/A-18 Korea).

By the way, I always use this screen name - in games, forums, etc (if you search "robegian" with Google you'll notice I've been pretty active in the net:-)

alright! welcome to the gr fold!!

if you have any questions about gameranger or how it works, just pm me, and i'll be happy to help.

you'll usually find me playing the halo demo on gr, just because there are usually more people to play with.

it depends. i've seen 2 halo games up and at least 5 demo games up at one time. but don't expect to play with as many people as you do on gamespy.

there are usually around 80-130 general mac gamers on gr at any given time.

if you want people to join, you can always advertise in the main lobby of gr.

blaze43, is blªze your gameranger screen name? can i add you as a buddy?

I'm a Halo PC player and I've never had the chance to see the mac version being played. Are there any notable graphical differences? For instance are the textures more detailed? Is the game more responsive? Is everything more or less shiny?

the graphics and gameplay are exactly the same, except for the (minor) differences i showed above.

except: the shees don't have those glowy things on the wingtips in the full mac version. they put them into the demo, i don't know why.

and: my graphics card can't display all of the shiny stuff (weapons, armor, vehicles) so everything is matte colors. i have a GeForce2 MX. it makes me jealous, to see all of the pc player's screenies and vids where everything is shiny.

edit:

forgot one: on the mac, the overshield is a light sea-foam green. on a pc and xbox, it's red.
