Knowing the basic story, and having filled in details as you played the game itself, that novel is fighting an uphill battle when it comes to winning over fans.

While I personally didn't find it as painful as others have, I will admit that it is the one that I re-read the least.

he re-read it zero times.

i cant finish it. the naarative is just so lame. i cant see why explaining how to play a 10 hour game in a 20 hour book is even sell-able. loved the others, TF sucked in my opinion.

I have read all 3 of The Halo books and I thought the Flood book was very good .I loved the description of everything he does and talking from a covedent point of veiw. However the book did have 1 part that didnt make sense to me what happens to the last surviving Marines on The truth of reconciliation when they took it over

and i know this is off topic did any1 read the end of the 3rd book "The First Strike" Because the're are still 4 or 5 spartains alive i remeber y didnt bungie put them inot the halo2 game
\\

All Three Halo Books were Great but the last 1 is the best

A Guide to Networking, Matchmaking, and Host in Halo (HBO mirror)

Bungie Friends and Family invitee, and sender of "random emails" about networking.

It's a terrible, bland, horrible book.

It completely breaks the MC's character (which Nylund has captured perfectly); "I wish I knew you Sarge; you must have been one hardcore son of a -blam!-". Er ... no.

It contradicts the game (no marine in the Library), I didn't save 60 marines on Halo, and I sure as hell didn't try to talk to a flood-infected marine.

And damn, combat in that book is just so boring. The dialogue is cliched and dull. Overall, it's just a painful read. Give me the FoR and FS anytime; every character feels like a perfect extension of their game counterparts. I personally also find it much easier to picture, instead of trying to imagine a whole bunch of stuff I didn't do or that never happened.

I've read TFoR and I'm about two thirds of the way through the Flood. I did like TFoR better, but Flood wasn't too bad. I really liked the Covenant stuff. Yayap was just awesome.
"Why did you lie to me"
"Because you can fly us out of here and I can't"

But most of the MC stuff was boring, mostly because anything he does that I don't already know is horribly out of character.

Yes, It does read through the whole game. And it does get much better. The beginning is kind of dull, I will say. But overall, it's a good book. Not as good as The Fall of Reach, or First Strike, which I think was my personal favorite, but it's still good. Good enough for me to rereadm which I'm doing.
