A while back discussion about changing our status as forum members and those of us of whom are mods. Where our name and avatar are located. Is that coming soon? I'd like to move up from member to "Grunt" or "Jackal"....

leading to my next idea.. if bungie does implement this i think the lowest rank/setting should be "grunt" all the way up to "elite" and then of course the mods would be spartans or something to that affect...

ideas?

Only that there will not be some kind of ranking system that is demeaning to new users.

Well not so much a ranking system but somethin incorporated to the length of time you have been here.. or something to that affect.. I thought there was talk of atleast changing your names from member to moderator...

bah

Something based on time here would be nice, but also rather pointless, as our time here is clearly diplayed. I'd rather see the ability of Bungie to change them to fit their will. Certain people would have the distict honor of having a name change. We could also nominate people for a change. There are certain people here who just need a custom class. People deserving of a proper title. Like "Bad Speller", or "Wisdom Sharer" or "False Wisdom Sharer" (Barron). Nominations would take place by the oldest members here. I still think a super elite chapter of cool members should be formed. Only the best of the members can join, and these people can dictate who is deserving. Of course, this is really unfair to new people, but really, some of them come in demanding to be mods on their 2nd day here, so they can just sit and -blam!-.

The oldest members giving away nominations?oh boy, somehow that can never go right. You already called barron the "false wisdom sharer". And we all know he only tells the truth.
But you're right about Bungie manually changing it.

Well, my point may be a tad biased, as Ive just created my account. Naaa...

I find that in most forums around the net, way to much emphasis is placed on "How long you have been here". I guess its a way for "Veterans" to distinguish themselves from the "n00bs", who in their own right have done nothing wrong but sighn up at a different time than the veterans. Just being a "Vetran" does not gaurentee someone being intelligent, constructive, or mature. Their are *probably* (maybe just maybe) some intelligent and helpfull n00bs around lurking on these forums and forums alike. If we were going to merit anything, it should be Constructiveness, maturity, and overall behavior. If you flame, troll, and just be childish, you shouldnt gain any "rank".

However, this brings up another valid point. I really dont see the need for a ranking system in the first place. Again, its usually only used to distinguish yourself, and while that is fine, its usually only important to those with ego-problems. If we want individuality, I think custom off-site avatars and the ability to import our custom made signitures would be a valid choice.

Anyway, those are my two cents.

I think it'd be funny if the names were randomly changed, but that they would have almost no meaning; Donut, Wally, Coaster, random things like that.

While I have yet to see a veteran user who is immature or unintelligent, I agree with your point regarding helpful new people.

Surely, Rip Saw, Creating this group of 'Older' users would create this elitist society (unintentionally of course, I have 'spoken' to many of you older dudes via the PM system, and I know you would not intentionally yadda yadda yadda you know exactly what I was going to say) and many users would feel left out/angered etc by this, and a rift may grow in the community.

No, I dislike the idea of this 'Greater class' of memebers, who decide who gets what titles. Maybe the titles could be adjusted at random (with the users permission of course) to a title that suits their particular style etc. I don't know who would monitor this however.

How about we make a group of older users that could monitor this? It would be a great idea.....

EDIT: My apologies, I misread, you said the coolest members. Still, who decides who is super elite cool? (or however you put it)

thanks for everyone who has replied. I really wasnt stressing "Super cool people" or just new members. I myself had a log in a long time ago yet forgot which email address i used and my password for that matter. (but thats off topic) I just thought a little addition to the avatar on the left where our name and "member" status is. Nothing biased.. just something to show for is all. For instance i havent been on redvsblue forums lately but i believe ppl are called "-blam!-"bites.. now i know ppl here dont want to be called that but its still a little tidbit that adds to each person...

now i know bungie definatley has a sense of humor, due to the fact that when i visit bungie.net randomly.. the title waaaay on top changes.. to things such as "home of marty odonnel' or ' pleasuring your mom since 1991'..

Someone forgot to hit spell check. I think that the custom titles would be cool. It'd probably be a good idea if the mods or the older members like Halo53, Rip Saw, Barron and others could choose the title for other members. The titles could be given to people who post good, thoughtful, contributive material in the forums. And because it is something that would "seek you" and not something that "you seek" there wouldn't be the problem of having new/immature people posting thread after thread to get a title.

My two cents,
-Baerdog7 (aka Dr. Conventions)

-edit- After correcting Rip Saw, I had to go back and make sure I didn't have any spelling errors. :)

I always tell the truth, except when it comes to the Yellow Banshee.

As for the name calling, I'm not sure if any regular member should have the right to do that. It should be reserved for only mods and Bungie employees. It just keeps things more uncomplicated. In general, I think that the idea of giving people titles is a great idea as long as no spammers are named (as Shishka once said, they would wear that name like a badge of honor.).

-EDIT-

BUT I really don’t think that more than ten people should be named, or some kind of elite “society” could be formed (as Stallin said). The people with different titles should be seen as valued community members, and if they abuse the respect that comes with that title, then they need that title removed immediately- simple as that.

The Josher would be a nice title I think, lol.

I understand how Lost feels. He thinks we shouldn't single anyone out, become a family, fat kids are in the group, lol. Ok, enough with making fun of fat people. I wouldn't mind having a nice little title next to my name. An avatar would be nice if that was possible too.

I know it would be unfair to those users who actually are good people. That's why having things others can't will probably never go into affect. Although there is an exception (Mods). They are Mods though. Having a chapter with only old/respected users would change that though. It wouldn't single anyone out as much.

I just like talking to people that I've known on this site more than to talking to the new guys. It's just different. That doesn't mean I won't though.

Well, the thing is that if we name one person, we have to name just about everyone. I mean, just as soon as we name person A, persons B through Z want names. And then person after person will come to us saying "Why didn't I get a name?" I think it would be kind of demeaning to say "You're just not awesome enough, sorry."
It would create hierarchy. That's bad.

Like I said earlier, if the titles were given out to people who consistantly help the forums and who go out of their way to make them better than it would give others reason to post high content material instead of HALO 2 ROXORS!!!11!!!! LOL!!@! That's just what I think.

I hate any kind of government, my history talks about government like I would talk about a Hang em High CTF match. Besides Democracy (which kind of sucks today), almost every other form of government is stupid.

I just remembered, were not allowed to talk about politics...I blame Sigma, lol.

What do you mean by that? you say it doesn't exsist? But you told me it did!

Anyway, As Sigma said, "if someone gets a title, than suddenly everyone wants a title. And if someone asks why he can't get one, ye have to give him a stupid answer." that's not quite true, if someone haven't gotten a title, it simply means he hasn't shown why he deserves one.

Still, i'm very sceptic about a title system. We should let Bungie decide.

If Achronos does end up implementing a title system, rest assured that it will be perfect.

That's my point. In the interest of fairness, we would need a group of people deciding who gets named and who doesn't. Of course, no one would ever get a name they didn't want, but all names must be approved too. And do tell me what is wrong with a senior group of people to do this? This wouldn't just be older members either. People like Stalin the 31st and Baerdog7 have always demonstrated good taste and judgment in what they post. I would never limit such a chapter to old members. There would be a time limit though, just to keep people from making a “mature account” just to get in. And if people were jackasses about it, I’d say they don’t deserve to be in. Why not make a 7th Column council? Like I’ve said before, some people don’t like listening to the mods because they were chosen by Bungie. While I usually tell these people to shove it, I also know they would be more likely to behave if a good person naming system was implemented, and I hardly think such a system could be fully automated.

If you want to select 10 people for naming, I’d like to see this list of 10 people, because my list would be around 100 people long. I don’t think the mods want to name 100 people, and I know Archronos doesn’t have the time for that. I have lots of time for that, and I know other people here do to. These forums are very friendly towards new people, to the point of almost totally excluding the people who have been here for a long time. Now that isn’t fair.

And yeah, I couldn't think of anything shorter than "Tells New Guys About The Yellow Banshee" for Banshee Barron without ruining the meaning. He knows I'm only kidding. His BS is of superior quality.
