Opinions are like butholes. Everyone's got one, nobody wants to hear about it.

Halo Reach is canon. The gaming story world of Halo supersedes what happens outside the games. The games are, as they put it, "Prime Canon".

Canon. Why? Just because cortana could not have just flown onto the pillar of autumn.

I've noticed the community likes to nitpick EVERYTHING bungie does.

If someone on the halo wiki said "A possible reason Spartans can no longer dual wield is because they suffered from muscular atrophy before the events of halo 2" I wouldn't be surprised.

Every Halo game is Cannon. Even Reach and Halo Wars. It is the prime media for the universe, therefore unless stated otherwise, it is all cannon.

Just to clarify, here is the list of Cannon Halo Games.

Halo CE
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo 3 ODST
Halo Wars
Halo Reach

Even tho Halo Wars was made by a different company, Bungie at the time said it was cannon. The reason why it can be cannon is because the ship couldn't contact any other UNSC ships. So they couldn't warn about the flood and the ship was never seen again. Hence why in Halo CE the flood was still unknown.

Game cannon comes before book cannon.

Problem is, game cannon is horrible trash compared to the book ad gave said book, the middle finger.

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

Reach the game was a disgrace to the book's canon. I mean, Noble Team was fine and all but they completely spat on the original (and perfectly fine) lore.

I understand they wanted to make the game a surprise for those fans who were familiar with the canon. However there is a major problem when I read the book, play the game, and feel as though they are two different worlds.

Although they do feel as if they are on two different worlds, the timeline fits. Go up to Halopedian and search for the ONI data drops. They will clear almost everything that was puzzling with Halo Reach.

I know they have attempted to bridge the gap between the two. I have read all the pieces of lore. But it does not negate the fact that they don't even feel the same.

Reach was the biggest battle in the Human-Covenant War. Why Bungie made it feel like we were fighting for some no-name Outer Colony world is beyond me. The game is fun and the campaign has its moments but the missed potential is glaringly obvious.

We all know it is. But, I think it is something to do with the fact that we are a Spartan 3 team (besides Jorge).

Unlike the S2's, we weren't in front line combat for most of the time. We were always on some special op, that in some remote place. This is part of the story, as building a city on a Forerunner artifact can lead to... problems.

ONI had foresight, they decided to build Sword Base in the middle of nowhere. The Viery territory was deserted, and that was where the entire game took place.

I'm not saying there isn't logic behind what they did. I'm saying it could have been so much better in such an obvious way.

Instead of flying around Frigate Savannah and Anchor 9 we should have flown around MAC Platform X and defend it from various threats. While in the background we could have seen the main battle for Reach.

How about instead of driving around the countryside in a farm cart don't we escort or seeing off civilian transports we escort top military and ONI personnel away from the chaos and towards relative safety.

Little things like this. You could keep your "behind-the-scenes" aspect of Reach they were going for but also stay true to what Reach really was.

I mean, look at what we simply SAW. Even when the Covenant started glassing the planet in New Alexandria we didn't even see nor hear of the UNSC fleet. Firstly, they said 60% of the fleet was en route to Reach (which is cool) but we never hear about or see it again?

Sorry, no matter how you want to slice it the campaign's storyline (and arguably the gameplay) sucked. It really did.

Before Reach the game came out if you were to ask a Halo fan what Reach was about they'd tell you it was a big, important battle that the Covenant ultimately won. Would they guess it was about Spartan III's driving around the countryside in a farm cart?

Probably not.

This. A thousand times this, and then a thousand times more.

It's like the new Star Wars movies. They can never be undone. They will never, ever go away. Unfortunately, since the game does exist, it has to be considered canon despite my deepest wishes that it was just a horrible fanfiction.

I'd say no.

Corn, Oil, and Wine... We need more wine...

Sadly, new canon overrides old canon. Even if the older stuff is far better... So, Reach is canon, even though Bungie could have made it fit in with the Halo bible just by taking some time to polish their silver. Reach could have been golden easily, but nope.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

While there were inconsistencies with actual dates between the game and books, it is part of the Halo Universe, and is therefore canon.

Hey, uh, if you like vs threads, then check out this little group right here, if you have the time. It's pretty fun, just hop right in.

It's been established, if something contradicts what's already been stated, then whatever is newer overwrites whatever is older.

So yeas, it is.
