I think it would be neat if 343 reuped Halo 2 in Halo 4's graphics like they did with Halo CE, but they need to have the Halo 2 multiplayer feeling to it. You get what I'm saying?

No, CE sucked with Reach MP for me. Only the new kids will like it, for the most part imo. The only way to get the H2 feel is to use the H2 engine.

R.I.P. Halo 2
11/9/04 - 4/15/10

- B( )B

I voted no, but I think you will agree with my reasoning.

I'd rather wait a few years, and have it done on the next gen Xbox. The 360 is nearing the end of it's life, and I would want a Halo 2 remake to stay relevant for a long time. If it were to be released on Xbox 360, it would only have a short time before the next gen Xbox would release, and the population would decrease abnormally fast, and the people who leave would be less likely to go back to it with next gen titles to compete with.

Unfortunately most people never go back to games on an outdated console, so Halo 2's population wouldn't be as strong as it could be.

The right way to do it:

Update the surroundings (Uprising had waterfalls. I want those waterfalls to be absolutely stunning) and effects (plasma grenade explosion needs to be good enough to give people heart attacks) and the engine (moar AI),

Leave the character and vehicle models alone (unless they are actual remakes like the Shade turret and not just using newer models).

I do not want ugly H3/Reach Grunts. I want H1/H2 Grunts with less emphasis on the skin and face, more emphasis on the armor.
I do not want Wraiths that have the H3/Reach turret seat unless it is actually usable.

Of course, this is all highly unlikely. On the other hand, Saber, not 343, worked on CEA. According to Wikipedia, they were only given a year because CEA coincided with Halo 4. If H2A isn't like that, then it may be possible to see an actual remake.

People tend to throw around the term "engine" when they don't really even know what it means.

Anniversary's multiplayer was inside Reach, not just its engine. A game and an engine are two completely separate things. You can edit an engine to make it work any way you want when developing a game. The engine is the back bone of any sort of game. Halo 2 could definitely be replicated (with a few extra glitches/loss of glitches in certain places.) You can mold an engine to do pretty much anything you want. That's why people were beyond ignorant when they freaked out about Halo 4 using a modified Reach engine.

If you want to see some examples of how games running on the exact same engine can differ, you can look here.

Halo 2's engine was greatly flawed in many respects. While the flaws lead to beloved (I love them as well) glitches like super bouncing/button combos, they would add great difficulty to anyone who wants to remake the game with improved graphics. You could just give it the 1920x1080, higher resolution textures, and anti-alising; the problem with that is you wouldn't be able to have the graphics that Anniversary had without editing the engine its self. That would lead to a certain glitches not being there and other miscellaneous things people would complain about.

One thing they could do is go the route of Anniversary campaign. Hopefully they could pull that off in multiplayer flawless while making sure everything is balanced for both players.

Bottom line, CE sucked using whatever from Reach. If they do it the same in H2 as they did in CE, then no.

Are you talking about the Campaign or Multiplayer here? If you're talking about the Multiplayer, they used the game its self. If they messed with the engine at all, that would make it incompatible with Reach. If you're talking about Campaign, they didn't use Reach's engine at all. They used Saber Interactive's own engine.

One thing they could do is place the seeds into Halo 4 now so that when they DO work it the same way, it will work perfectly this time. Most of the stuff you'd have to do might already be in place as a matter of fact. Hitscan Battle Rifle would be one thing they wouldn't be able to get into the game after release and sure enough they already have one in it. :D

Was just making sure you meant only Multiplayer, not Single Player. I've heard complaints from you about the Campaign as well when it comes to inconsistency.

Was talking specifically about this part:

Bottom line, CE sucked using whatever from Reach. If they do it the same in H2 as they did in CE, then no.
I was pretty sure you were talking about only multiplayer, but I decided to talk about campaign as well just in case.

Also, like I said before, they might have a way to plan things out for a remake of Halo 2 like they did with Reach, but better. Reach wasn't made with the mind set that 343 Industries would be releasing Anniversary. They could have Halo 4 ready to completely imitate Halo 2's multiplayer if they wanted to. Keep in mind that this is far fetched. I know that it is, but I'm just saying that could even be a possibility.

Reach is total garbage. I'm proud it failed and died. Hope this message gets to 343 and they make a proper game.

Quit competitive Halo, I have acquired something called "having a life". Play it time to time as of now. Some people should also try this thing called "having a life".

No, because that would mean patches and upgrades which like Halo: CEA shall degrade the experience. All I wish is that they bring the servers back. Even that may be pushing it.

Yeah, this is just it. If you don't use the engine from Halo 2 you will not get the remake you want.

We need a re-release. That would make everyone happy if somehow it ended up on the Xbox Live Marketplace with online multiplayer/co-op. That's just what I think, but the chances of that happening are extremely thin. Look I miss Halo 2 online as much as any other fan, but I have moved on.

somewhere in the heavens...they are waiting. I love the Marathon Trilogy.
Halo CE will always be the best game in the Halo franchise. What a perfect game.
(Proud LONGTIME owner of the PC and Xbox versions of Halo CE)

I don't care about having updated grpahics, just a re-release might be nice.
