Still using a pump-action shotgun over 500 years in the future I see.

omg not realistic stop game production plz

Note; when I say "The Covenant", I mean the client races, as the religous and military alliance of the races known as "The Covenant" is no longer present post-2553.

This has probably been discussed before, but with the Halo Bulletin recently confirming the Covenant's presence in Halo 4 in some form, I feel it is somewhat a good time to speculate on what we know.

The Elites? We already know they're in very big trouble; Sanghelios's infrastructure is nearly non-existant, and depending on slaves from other races. However, with Jul and Avu planning to end any kind of alliance with humanity and re-mobilise, I can see them making a minor appearance, trying to get in on what's happening.

The Brutes are unlikely to appear at all I believe; they'll go back to their civil war ways back on Doisac, in my opinion. It's their nature.

Grunts will only be relevant if brought into affairs by another race, likely the Elites. Beyond that? Fairly irrelevant.

Hunters are the same as the Grunts. As are the Drones, and possibly Jackals.

Prophets are still somewhat relevant I guess. They have disappeared post-war, yes, but the fact remains that with their history that ties with Humans and Forerunners, it's likely that either they'll be pulled into whatever situation occurs in this trilogy, or they'll willingly get involved, ecstatic to meet their "gods" and likely crave Forerunner technology.

Thoughts?

Because they are the only race that actually merits some more fleshing out in the story department. I don't think 343I will go deeper with the drones and we have long been told (Frankie I thin ) that the lekgolo were a race that merited expansion.

Thus, Seeing how the forerunners ignored them in the past They could easily be connected now since we know nothing about them and they are immune to the flood.

I feel the other races come into play because the forerunners probably enslaved them. The HCE terminal (Last one) already implies they knew of the Elites and that they aren't a new race to the galaxy.

Seems likely considering that the Forerunners would later catalogue the Sangheili, along with all the other Covie races.

I do have the nagging feeling that the Elites will interfere in Halo 4 through their own desire to...well, be involved in the galaxy. Though this thought of mine depends entirely on just what is attacking Telcam and Phillips at the end of Glasslands.

I don't know and i don't like it.

I see a connection with them being brought in because the forerunners saved them but other than that they have no role.

The Grunts could also be brought in by the Brutes. As for their nature, this is a war- I think they are likely to get involved. Although, it wouldn't be necessary.

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

I think it would be cool if the brutes followed MC to the shield world.

I don't think we can rule out the Elites. Other then the fact that they've been given a much higher degree of the spotlight, The Arbiter is the closest thing the human race has to an alien ally in the galaxy. They might act as a helping hand this time around.

I'd love to see the Elites and Hunters return. Only time will tell though.

They're probably less of an empire and more of an alliance this time around that's likely a UNSC proxy for how to deal with the other races of the galaxy.

I'll be disappinted if we don't see Thel at some point in Halo 4.

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

Probably a 3 way fight between the Brutes, the Elites and Humanity, and then we get a rip off of Mass Effect 3 and Halo 3 where everyone becomes BFF's against the Big Bad. I would like to see the UNSC ally with the Brutes against the Elites now though. The two have more in common with their foe, the Elites, than they realise.

But how in the world would there be any type of battle between them when they are all so weak? The UNSC doesn't have the ship ratio to fight the "covenant" ships left along with the brutes and elites not being able to replace the ships they have.

I also highly doubt they would team up, "the Return" doesn't speak of anything of the sort ever happening. Not to mention what would they team up with?

This is why i am saying they really don't belong.

Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.

Just for a bit more info here's another quote on them:
Yes. The Covenant will definitely return, albeit in a completely (graphically, politically and sonically) overhauled form, but they may be the least of your problems.

I think by "covenant" it mean the Races might have formed together again but not the worship the forerunners.

Elites - hopefully. The space drama can get annoying at times but I often enjoy it

Brutes - I wouldn't mind seeing allied Brutes or Brutes with minor roles (like in Glasslands) or a Predator style trophy room with a Brute's skull mounted on the wall...

Grunts - As Halo 4 is neither ODST or Reach, it must continue the tradition of a special talking Grunt. Talking Grunts are not in the same category as tributes (i.e. panicking marines). They are vitally important to the canon (that's right I went there :P)

Hunters - would be interesting
Drones - Without a queen (Prophets), they are scattered
Jackals - possible
Huragok - likely. They are important

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

This.

I'm getting sick of the prevalent attitude of people going "Screw the Covenant, get rid of them entirely!" I want to see the Covenant in Halo 4, along with whatever new thing is coming, and I want both to be fleshed out extensively.
